I have seen this on invitations all the way at the bottom in a tiny font, much more smaller then the wording invitation.
Is this poor taste to get cash , instead of family members or friends giving you 4 toasters at your wedding?
My girlfriend recieved so many gifts that were duplicate that she wished she had suggested monetary gifts. What do you ladies think?

I think it's a hope we all share, but you can't say it out loud or put it in writing!

I would refrain from putting that on the invitation. I would tactfully register for a few things and hopefully that should work out for you.
PS - guys, I love you all but lets refrain from coming down on someone so harshly. A simple, 'no or that's not a good idea' will do the trick. I read this post and I felt so bad for her. She's just asking for advice. Please lets all be kind to each other. Please?

I wouldn't personally do it but that's just me. Most people I know who PREFERED cash (but have never asked for it) registered at places other than home stores like Fortunoffs. One girl I know registered for her honeymoon & another girl who bought a house registered at Home Depot. They put the cash they would have spent in savings then. My parents went to a wedding where gifts at the shower were donations to a 'house savings fund' but it was through a bank or organization & not AS tacky as cash.

you should not ask for monetary gifts. if you are getting married in NY, 99% of people give cash anyway.

Re: Anyone doing--Monetary gifts preferred
Please do not put this. If someone wrote that - I would not only boycott the shower and the wedding - I would probably rethink my relationship with them. TACKY!!! You have to know this already though.

Re: Anyone doing--Monetary gifts preferred
I moved to Spain after my first wedding and WISHED I could ask for $$ -- but I couldn't, but I thought it would be obvious ...but noooo, I got a waffle maker (Europe has different voltage AND plugs) from someone's son -- who not only wasn't even invited but even brought a 'guest' with him! Along with lots of other useless and non-packable stuff. So I took back everything I reigstered for, and got the $$ from the store...
But I am sorry to say, we cannot ask for cash.

NO, I am NOT doing that. Personally, I would be offended if I saw that on an invitation that I received. I ALWAYS give cash for weddings, but if I saw that, I would either send a gift or give less cash than I normally would.
AGREED!!!!!
At NY weddings noone gives 'gifts'anyway.

Aside from the fact that it's not polite to ask people for money or a particular gift, around here I would be shocked if you got more then one or two actual gifts.

Re: Anyone doing--Monetary gifts preferred
I, like everyone else, would not do it. I have heard that some people get the word out through their close family/BP or just register for a few items or at stores that give cash refunds.
