when i pay my cable bill next friday i'm going to tell them to cut our package from silver to basic. ::sighs:: i'll miss HBO on demand. but i REFUSE to live without my DVR even though thats 10$ a month i could save lol

but i'll save like 50$ cutting down from silver to basic. which will be good.

I know it's a little bit of a tangent but a lot of 'vendors' are willing to cut your costs if they think you are going to cancel. For example, yesterday FH and I decided to cancel the landline phone in our apt. We use our cell phones all the time, the only people who even know our landline # are my parents and 10000 telemarketers, and while we're on the lowest plan (just local calls) it jumped from $12 to $13.75 a month, which is over $26 after taxes and fees and junk.

I called ATT and told them I wanted to cancel, told them why (too $$$ since we don't use it) and you should have seen her offer me things right and left to get me to stay. First she offered me $5 discount off my bill for 12 months! I said that was nice but still we didn't want to pay for the line. Then she said she'd give us a $25 voucher. I told her nothing she could say would sway us, but I wonder what else she would have offered. It's not like they were even losing out on a big sale!

The same way you would negotiate with wedding vendors works with non-wedding vendors. It can't hurt to try.... they don't want to lose business. Especially if you say 'I really like X service but we're pressed for money and it's just too much for us so we're thinking about SWITCHING to a different company' -- they will throw themselves at you.

I'm worried about money also. But I think about how life is to short (and I have experienced this in the past year). And this is something I really want and it will happen, even if we have to take a loan at the tail end we will.
I refuse to get upset about money anymore, the money cycle is evil and it always will be.
I have not lost my mind!!!!!! of course I pay everything on time and I pay way over my minimum payments on credit cards, so when I have 0 balance it will be wonderful, until then oh well.

i know its easier said than done, but try not to stress too much. everything happens for and reason, and everything will wor itself out. is it possible for you or your FH to pick up a second job? maybe on weekends or nights?

it's my chief reason for drinking, lol.

fh's (paid-in-full) car was stolen 1 month after we were engaged, our apt flooded twice over the summer, costing hundreds in damages bc we procrastinated renter's insurance. my mother never saved a penny for me & my brother in our whole lives, so on top of $400 a month in student loans, 2 car payments, rent, car insurance, blah blah blah, we have to pay for every cent of the wedding. trying desperately to find an rh that i don't hate where i can get close to $100/plate during the summer since i'm a teacher and have little choice.

still considering running away together even though i really want a wedding bc soon enough we're going to have to pull $50,000 for a house out of thin air.

FH cant b/c he works so many hours at work already and he has to watch his son on the weekends.

I've been looking and finally maybe got some luck. I go on saturday for an interview w/ JC Penny for nights and weekends. she thinks i'm insane for wanting to work retail though.

ITA

It was one f our main reasons for having a long engagement. I spent half an hour on the phone last night with FSIL venting about how I planned our e-party to coincide with an inexpensive flight for FILs and my other FSIL, only to have them wait till the last minute to book flights and let me know.

Then FMIL tells us to start looking at flights for Christmas I mean, we go to Florida for Christmas every year, but she always paid. On top of the e-party, saving for the wedding, and the holidays in general, we're supposed to pull $2000+ out of thin air for plane tickets and gifts, not to mention I'll be out of work for a week (unpaid!!) so that hurts our finances even more

I need to find a delicate way of putting this to FH...he's not very compromising and will want to go and spend the money even if it sends us to the poorhouse

TOTALLY the reason for our long engagement! when people ask the date, they always say 'wow, that's a long way off' and i'm like yeah i thought i might give myself some time to put together $20,000.

Once I started actually seeing price tags for the wedding, I started freaking out. I mean, I'm totally lucky that I was able to move back home once I got sick, but I won't be living rent-free forever and I told FH that I really don't want another apartment, I'd rather buy a house this time around.

Making it a vacation/destination wedding has cut the price down to almost $5000 for everything.

That seems so much more doable than $20-30k.
