When you get married are you going to have one joint checking account or will you mainitain your own accounts and split everything. My FH and I were trying to decide what we would do. I thought we would combine everything, but then my mom said it would be better to still have some things seperate.

Re: Money?
I was one who totally said we would combine but now that I am married we found it more practical to have both. We have a joint savings ('house' account) and we both maintain separate checking accounts. It is just easiest for us.
Edited to say- we have our own system of who pays what and how/what goes to savings.

Re: Money?
Combining but we each have our own savings account that we will keep at first...then who knows!! I like we may try to keep a certain amount in each of our accounts...we'll see when we find a house though!!

My late grandmother always told me to always keep some money of my own. I know when you get married you are one and I totally agree with that, however I think a woman should have a sense of financial independence as well.

Re: Money?
We have a combined account for house bills that we used for saving for the wedding. Then we each have our own checking accounts. I have a few bills from a while ago that I am still paying off. Plus I dont want to have to have every one of my personal expenses going through our joint account (hair cuts, gifts, etc.)

One joint and then keep one for each independently. He doesn't need to know when I buy a new pair of shoes.

Re: Money?
We combined for wedding savings purposes but i think we will get seperate accts when we get married. I manage all the money (he has no idea what we have) and he totally trusts me and thinks we shouldn't get seperate accts after the wedding but I think it is a good idea to have a shared acct and then each have their own.

Re: Money?
One joint checking account and separate checking accounts for each of us---that way if we want to buy a gift or something for each other it can be a surprise.
we have joint...but I do have a separate savings account (leftover) that doesn't cost anything to keep open...and I have a little bit in that

Re: Money?
It all depends on how you pay the bills and your fiancial habits. I need access to my own money. Some couples I know have joint accounts and each is given a certain amount to spend each week. I am not a very good 'budget' person. Some couples I know divide the bills and maintain just a joint savings account. Scott pays all of our bills using both accounts. He is better at it then I am. I hate dealing with money. That is just me. I think you have to try a few different ways and find a solution that works for both of you.

Re: Money?
My FH thinks that i can be controlling at times, and in his family his mom controls the money and more or less gives his father an allowance, sice he is retired. I definitly don't want to be live that, but i think he is a bit nervous.

Re: Money?
We have two joint checking and savings accounts. He is primary on one and I'm primary on the other. We mainly have it this way because we both want and love our debit cards and our bank won't let you have two on the same account.

We aren't married yet, but have a joint account for a few years. It works out well- I am a student and he makes more money than me!!!!!
