Re: Money Hungry Question
i really have no idea & honestly i don't even want to take a guess & set myself up for disappointment.
i expected to receive more registry gifts at my shower then we did & ended up in a gigantic fight with my parents & FH. i don't want to deal with that again.

Re: Money Hungry Question
I know I'm getting a couple of grand from my Dad not sure about my FIL's since they paid for a lot (flowers, rehearsal dinner, brunch etc.) With that being said, probably around 10k, a lot of people are coming from out of town and are not exactly rich.

I agree with Barb....anything under $150 per person is unacceptable! Not we shall see! Everyone always has a cheap degenerate relative!

Re: Money Hungry Question
I'm expecting $100/pp. I'm probably going to get f*cked over because I'm having a Thursday wedding and people think its ridiculously cheap. However, I am paying for party bus shuttling for 30 people so I hope those people throw in a little extra based on that. And in my case, I hope people wait to see the wedding until they write the check...the crap I got in store for them will be worth a decent gift

Re: Money Hungry Question
Well supposedly FIL's are giving us 10k...but I don't know when that's even coming.
We're getting 10k from the money that my grandpa left my brother (he is autistic and is state supported and my grandpa left him a lot of money that he'll never ever use...so its like his wedding gift to us).
So that's 20k right there...my mom keeps saying she thinks that we'll get ~20k from everyone else. I sure hope she's right because that's a lot of money!!

For the most part, people were very generous at our e-party....hoping that will carry over.

Re: Money Hungry Question
we were thinking we would have around 10k (small wedding)
a lot of people got us actual presents though, and apparently monetary gifts outside of NY is way different. people were giving like $20 pp. it was kind of upsetting, but DH thought I was ridiculous. thank goodness our families were very generous.

Re: Money Hungry Question
whats funny is at work one day this got brought up and majority of people said they give $100p/p and that anything over that is BS and if the couple decides to pay over $100pp, then that's on their end. basically they're just trying to cover their plate

Re: Money Hungry Question
Figure at least $100 a person (and i know some won't give that, and some will give more), but if you average it to $100 a person and not counting kids, it should be
$20,000!!!
This would make FH and I very happy.
I think we will get around that, maybe a little less, maybe a little more.

at least 150 per person,... thats the standrad, bare minimum anyone should give at a ny wedding.
good luck
people still think $75 is cool and to bring their checkbook and write it out then and there depending on how 'good' the wedding is
OMG really? I have to admit I was a little shocked about all the gifting when I started planning this wedding bc I am from Ohio. Sooo the weddings there are a bit different. But seriously...waiting till you see what the wedding is like...not cool.

I always give at least $100 for my side and $100 for FH. Doesn't matter where it is. If I'm closer to the person, I give more.

Oh wow. I didn;t know it was $150. Honestly, I'm the first of my girls to get married, and I haven't been to many weddings. FH and I gave his close friend $400, and besides that I've been to a handful of weddings where I thought $100 per person was good enough. Ooops. Now I feel bad. This was a few years ago though.
Good to know $150 is norm.

Re: Money Hungry Question
My mom has said that in the past she has brought her checkbook to weddings... but NOT to see how good it is, but to make sure that she was giving enough. She felt that if the wedding was a 'platinum wedding' style wedding that she didn't want to be embarrased by giving too small a gift..........
my sister's friend called me THE DAY OF to ask me how much it was per plate so that she could make sure she covered it... I told her I wsn't sure, and I think she ended up giving nothing....
I hope to get somewhere around $20k... my sister got this... and it's later now.... that would be nice!!!! PLus I don't have too much to register for, so idk what i'll end up with... but returns end up = cash..... and i'll register for the honeymoon... so that'll help too!!!
