Re: Money Hungry Question
Both of our families are generous when it comes to gifts and so are our friends, so I'm sure we'll get at least $150 per person. I'm sure we'll be surprised by some people as I see from what other people are saying.

Re: Money Hungry Question
i honestly have no clue
our families are always very generous....but we have a lot of friends invited that are from PA and DC so they may be a little cheapo for a NY wedding just bc they dont know. im not expecting a ton from them.

I agree with Barb....anything under $150 per person is unacceptable! Not we shall see! Everyone always has a cheap degenerate relative!
Oh wow. I didn;t know it was $150. Honestly, I'm the first of my girls to get married, and I haven't been to many weddings. FH and I gave his close friend $400, and besides that I've been to a handful of weddings where I thought $100 per person was good enough. Ooops. Now I feel bad. This was a few years ago though.
Good to know $150 is norm.
you also have to factor in what you can afford

I'm expecting $100/pp. I'm probably going to get f*cked over because I'm having a Thursday wedding and people think its ridiculously cheap. However, I am paying for party bus shuttling for 30 people so I hope those people throw in a little extra based on that. And in my case, I hope people wait to see the wedding until they write the check...the crap I got in store for them will be worth a decent gift
Ditto...I'm expecting about $100pp and that will actually put us at a profit

Re: Money Hungry Question
for my side the norm is always $200, more if ur close to the person. not sure about FH's. his own mother asked where are we registered for the wedding FH was like 'REGISTERED????? NO! MONEY PLZ!' and one of my friends asked if I prefer a gift or money. I wasnt shy, I said 'money of course. dont need gifts other than that'
ETA: I actually deleted my registry
I hope we cover the RH. prob gonna end up getting like a 1/3 or a tad more than the cost of the wedding
this sbj is giving me a headache......

Re: Money Hungry Question
i really don't think that its fair to say that their is a norm amount. FH & I have been to quite a few weddings & we have always given what we felt we could afford.

Re: Money Hungry Question
Sorry to burst the bubble here girls, but there are plenty of people who gave us $75 or $100. I don't want to sound too greedy but of course things cross my mind. But I'm thankful people gave what they could afford and enjoyed themselves. However, we had a lot of people give extremely generous amounts.
eta: to clarify, i mean $75-$100/couple NOT per person.

I def want to make some bank on the wedding, but who knows. With the economy and everything, I'm expecting the worst.

it kind of all equals out...b/c those couples who gave $100....i had people give $500 or some even $1000! So it works out.

Re: Money Hungry Question
I thought $300 per couple was the norm...but my friend recently got married and said many people gave less. I dont think people are up to speed on the current minimums : )

Re: Money Hungry Question
I'll be happy with whatever I get. I have been to many weddings and I have given when I could at the time or something off the registry. I know for alot of my guests money is tight and they don't have $300 to give as a couple so as long as I get a congrats card from the person I will be happy. The economy stinks at the moment. I can't expect people to give what they can't afford.
