A friend of mine is getting married next summer. She told me that the Groom's parents are paying for the rehearsal dinner & flowers. I have also heard before that traditionally, the grooms parents do this. FH told me his parents plan on doing the rehersal dinner & paying for our plane tickets for our honeymoon & letting us use their timeshare anywhere we want. I am not by any means trying to be greedy, but my parents are spending a TON of money for everything & even though they are assuming they are paying for the flowers, it would be nice to maybe lessen their burden a little bit. I wanted your girls opinion...TIA

Honestly, you can't expect anyone to do anything for you. Be happy that they are giving you that much, a lot of people don't.

I think the days are long gone when you can really stick by the old rules of who's side pays for what. If you want to lessen your parents' financial burden, why don't you and your FH pick up the florist tab?

Although that is traditionally how it is done, as 2008 brides, we know that there isn't much tradition left when it comes to who pays what for the wedding. I would be thankful for what they are contributing (plane tickets can be pricey). I knwo you feel like your parents have laid out a ton of money and you are probably frustrated, but in the grand scheme of things, I still think you are making out good.

Re: Money question...eww
My parents are buying my dress and DOJ, shoes etc and my dad said if we have a certain amount of people we want to invite and they want to invite more he will pay for those guests.
So everything else FH and I are paying for....
FH's parents have given us $0. But I mean I don't really expect them too they didnt give his older brother any money for his wedding last year. But I know they will give us a very generous gift. Too bad we couldn't have it before the wedding
But his grandma did give us a good amount of money since she paid for his older brothers rehersal dinner. We decided to use teh money for our honeymoon and just pay for the rehearsal dinner ourselves.
It does stink sometimes knowing that my mom and dad are giving a significant amount of money to us for my dress and if they invite extra guests. But I cant be greedy because the money his grandma gave us is pretty much paying for our HM.

Believe me - i have learned with all the drama - take what you can get and be happy with it.
My parents are paying for part of the video, all of the floral & my dress.
His parents are paying for the rehearsal dinner, but not everyone - hard to explain - but whatever..

I agree, I thought the same way but after talking to my friend yesterday she kind of convinced me that thats how it should be. I have a very generous set of parents an in-laws. I swear I am so emotionally swayed these days with all of this planning!!

fh & i are scrapping it all together (somehow ) , so anything given to us is a blessing, no questions asked, but that's just us~we're very nontraditional in that sense.

honestly times have changed and things can't be EXPECTED...if they can help that is great but if they can't it shouldn't be expected...everyones financial situation is different so that has to be taken into consideration.

i wouldnt expect anything from anyone... JMO if people 'offer' to help for your wedding, that's great! But 'expecting' I think is a lil rude... Just to be safe I'd plan on paying for everything myself, and then when the offers come, yay! fabulous! As far as 'tradition' you hear sooooo many different things and you just cant rely on that stuff. again JMO good luck in getting everything taken care of!

so true...i mean i come from a family with 6 kids....
And I KNOW and do NOT expect my parents to give me any money. but thankfully my mom said she saved money for my dress and shoes and DOJ. I am just so excited to have her come dress shopping with me and I feel so blessed that she thought of doing that for me. And my dad he is such a great person knowing he is paying college tuitions, catholic high school tuition and having to support 6 kids and now he is offering to give us some money
I AM MORE THAN ESTATIC

well don't know how much you have done so far but before you do anything else, sit down and come up with a realistic budget...break it down and see how much you and Fh have to put aside every paycheck to do everything.

it's okay, just consider yourself very lucky~fortunate to have parents that are able to do this for you, don't bother comparing or listening to others about what 'should be' my mom is pitching in with my dress, i told her i am not looking to spend more than 2k-so she can help me with 1,500 and i am as grateful as i can be for it

Re: Money question...eww
I understand the frustration. My parents don't have much but my mother has been saving her Social Security check for 2 years so they can pay for my attire the day of the wedding and some other stuff for the apartment they she's been picking up everytime she goes out (mind you we don't even have an apartment yet but it keeps her happy lol)
His parents are paying for the rehersal.
Are they giving equal amounts?
No.
Can I complain?
No. (well technically I could but it's not going to get me anywhere)
LIke the other girls said, it's best to just take whatever you can get and not to expect because the only one who ends up getting upset over it is you.

You are so right. The best thing I need to do is not compare myself to others and listen to everyones opinion on how it should be done!! That is going to be my new outlook on the whole wedding!!
