Monograms
I have a couple of questions about monogramsIs it Ok to design an invitation around one? Or is it too early? i.e. we really aren't married yet
Has anyone every used the wax seal monogram on invitations sent in the mail? Do they stay on? get damaged?
Anyone know a good place to have one designed? and / or made ?
thanks

Re: Monograms
You are not supposed to use your married monogram until your married. But some people do it anyway so whatever your comfortable with.I used hot glue in place of wax...it looks very similiar, much cheaper and stayed on strong for my invites.

Re: Monograms
We have our married name monogram embossed on our invitation. The ever-so-snooty employee at Crane's paper here in Dallas told me it was not appropriate for me to use our married monogram on the invitation as it is being sent by my parents as an invitation to the event in which their daugher will be given away! WHATEVER! (I was so amused by this guys ridiculous emphasis on what 'society people' do...that I let him give me his speal!) Anyway, tradition says that anything before the wedding date should have the brides monogram on it...anything after the ceremony is free game. But, I don't like to follow what the rules say on this one...we used our married monogram on invites and have received many compliments. Plus, I thought it was pretty self-centered to have only my monogram on the invite, because without FI, there wouldn't even be an invitation!

Re: Monograms
Dubliner...I am doing monogram on programs, placecards and table numbers. I did them all myself...very easy with a nice font and MS Word. I also ordered informal cards for thank-you's, etc that match the style of our invites. I ordered them from www.americanstationary.com.They have all different kinds and colors of notecards that you can use your monogram on and their prices are pretty good.

Re: Monograms
Michele31 used a monogram of the first initial of each of their first names on their invites and programs. That is a nice option that doesnt require you to compromise tradition and doesnt imply that you are changing your name.

Re: Monograms
By the way...Depending on how complicated a monogram you want, I could probably make one for you. Just let me know what you had in mind.

Re: Monograms
My calligrapher designed my monogram with our first name intials only. I do not think you should use your new last name until you are married, and therefore it should not go on your invite. I know people do it, but I don't think it is proper. Also, I am NOT changing my name (I hypenated it) so there is NO real monogram option for that.

Re: Monograms
The invitation we picked out had a monogram on it so that's the one we used (in the same font as the wording).

Re: Monograms
my friend used the word LOVE monogrammed in lavender sealing wax on her invites and it stayed very well. I wanted to do burgundy sealing wax with a heart symbol, but I could not find the color wax I wanted.

Re: Monograms
I had a $300 flannel bag monogrammed w. my new initials in August - a GREAT AUTUMN BAG that superstition won't allow me to use until NOVEMBER 10th! (I'll be throwing my suntan lotion in there in Aruba!)
