OK yes i think that Charlize is a great actress. BUT
I am sorry making this movie which people leave it thinking or feeling bad for a serial killer is CRAZY IMO. Yeah maybe her father or mother didn't pay attention to her, maybe she was beat by men all her life...but to be honest with you...I DON'T CARE!!!!!
Why do people feel sad for someone (a serial killer) just because they have had to deal with this? LOTS of people have had abusive childhood and they don't go murdering people. And for people to actually feel bad for her is INSANE...IMO.
IT actually makes me sick, want to vomit that people feel bad for her. What about the families that she destroyed? I am sure they were happy about watching people humanize this psychopath! I have read books on people that have had to deal with a lot worse childhoods and never felt the inner urge to take their anger out on the world..
Maybe we should look into Charles Manson childhood, or hitlers to make sure that they were not spanked...he then that would make what they have done ok? understandable?
Sorry this is my rant...

Re: Monster...
i think you should watch Aileen Life & Death... it changed my views on her.... im not saying she wasnt alittle off... or that she was right for killing those men,... even though some of them (at least DEF the first one) was in self defense, but in the end, she IS or at least WAS human.... even so... if she was crazy i think its sick to send a crazy person to death... she shouldve gone into an asylum first. IMO a persons life shouldnt end for soemones Re-election campaign

Re: Monster...
Well, all I have to say is:
The day after my wedding, we went away on our honeymoon. As we were flying away, the only movie available on the flight was Monster. I had already been crying because I was wishing that I could have stayed and saw my visiting family members more.
Whenever I think about that movie, I get so upset and depressed and I feel sick.
I think the whole point of the movie (in addition to showing her life story) was to show that if someone starts out from nothing, is always mistreated, has no where to turn, what can society expect to happen?
We can argue that she could have worked harder, she could have gotten help. But, this all happened more than 20 years ago. Honestly, even today, without having a caring family or a decent support system, it is HARD to 'make it.'
This woman really had nothing...
edited to add: in no way am I saying that what she did is justified. I am just saying, I think the point of the movie was to show that when someone has NOTHING, NO support, and only encounters negative influences, it is VERY likely that they will beome a product of their situation.

OK well that self-defense theory is based soley on her and what she said! So sorry i am not really believing that. I actually saw the show you are referring to.
I thik she was a little more than 'off'. Asylums really don't exist anymore..there are mental health facilities and to be honest that would have done her no good IMO. And i don't think her life ended because of a re-election campaign either...She deserved the death pentaly plain and simple. Yes she is human and she knew what she was doing was wrong!

yes i understand this point og view.. BUT they are MILLIONS of men and women in this same predicament! MILLIONS! And IMO, this movies uses it as an excuse to humanize her...as a reason to show her empathy...And i just can't do that..I can't even begin to think about it. I just can't get past the devestation of the families and the 'what is' i was a family member...That is the point of view i see from and if someone i loved was brutally murdered, by a serial killer no less...I WOULD WANT HER TO FRY!!!!!! at minimum!

Re: Monster...
they had evidense that she was abused in the first incident.. that she was tied to the sterring wheel and all of that. not to mention richard mallory had a history of sex crimes. i DO belive that she killed him in self defense.. and i am surte that since she was 'crazy' that triggered her to do the rest, i dont know why... cuz she needed their $$ and wanted to eliminate a witness? im not saying its right. but i belive she had the worst lawyor ever and i think that her cases were not handled properly. of course i feel bad for the familes. but i feel bad for her as well.
maybe im just on the defense b/c you felt the need to make a thread about my avator rather than FMing me.....
i think we are all allowed to have our opinions. sorry thats how you feel about it. not everyone is going to agree with me and/or feel bad for aileen. i dont expect that. but i also dont think she was a 'monster'

jenn..... the reason the movie is like that is b/c its HER story. i dont think they went out of their way to 'humanize' her. the just told it how it was . acording to her.

I guess i just don't want to hear about it...

Lolita...your avatar made me think about the issue..It was in no way an attack on you or done to make you feel the need to defend yourself or your avatar..
I think you should know that this wasn't an attack on you per say...since the thread would be differnt... I would have said 'HOW DARE SOMEONE FEEL BAD FOR A KILLER'
That isn't the thoughts i was having as that..the movie was !!!!!

Re: Monster...
no drama here...
I can definitely see both sides of the issue.
I feel bad for her to the extent that I don't think she ever really had a chance in life. As in, I feel bad for the child that she once was who never had anything good in her life, who was never taught the difference between right and wrong. We all need to learn it somewhere. She never learned it at all. She never had any help or anyone to guide her in life.
That being said, If I was one of the victim's relatives, you can bet that I'd be holding up my 'fry' sign.

Re: Monster...
suven.... they actually now have some sort of program made after her whole life... its something for homeless & abused children.... i forget what exactly.... but its something to help kids and /or women who are dealing with similiar things aileen did growing up. i guess so we dont have anymore 'monsters'! i think that that is a really great thing that came out of this horrible tragedy.

that's good. too bad we don't live in a proactive society. All of the good programs seem to come out AFTER people molest, steal, kill, or get molested, robbed, or killed.
Ah, too much deep thought. I need to go make some coffee and go shopping...big discount at Macy's!
