Month to go, why now!-long

I have posted on wedding stuff, now I need anyone who has had this happen to them. As of today I have 1 month to go! I have been nothing but excited. Last night my OBGYN calls to tell me my pap was abnormal. I have to go in monday for some test (caloskapie-somthing like that) The want to check for cancer I am trying to keep positive about this but I dont really even know what is going on. They told me some of it over the phone but I cant say I remeber too much of the conversation. I am scared to death! If anyone has had this happen please fill me in. Everyone else, please keep me in your prayes on Monday. Thanks

Re: Month to go, why now!-long

Best of luck on Monday, and please try not to worry. You should go to the NWR board, because there was a lot of talk about this recently - Jennbaby just went thru something very similar and other girls shared their experiences...thinking of you....

Re: Month to go, why now!-long

I think it's called a colposcopy and it's nothing to really worry about. I had something abnormal, and they did find something pre-cancerous and they lasered it away and I am fine.

Try really hard to not lose too much sleep. These things are very normal. And Jennbaby can give you some insight as well. Feel good and keep us updated!

Re: Month to go, why now!-long

Ok, I know how you feel. I once had an abnormal pap. I only had one pap that was abnormal, so I didn't have to go for any special tests, they just made sure that my subsequent pap was ok, and since then I haven't had any other abnormal paps. At the time I read a TON about abnormal paps, and what I learned was that so many paps are 'abnormal', but it DEFINITELY does not mean cancer and only cancer. It could be from an infection, having sex too close to the pap, or the doctor not perfoming the test accurately, etc., etc. Also, it is great that you are going for paps b/c if anything is wrong with you, it has been decected early and that is good!!! This is what I remember, I hope it helps, but like I said there is a ton of info out there (I think Glamour has an article about it this month)

Re: Month to go, why now!-long

i have heard SO much of this lately. The test he is talking about is a colposcopy - they look a little bit inside the cervix and take some tissue samples. My cousin just went through this this week, and everything wound up being totally fine. Jennbaby on this board has also been posting about going through the same thing, you may want to try and track her down.

Re: Month to go, why now!-long

I agree with MKSKISH, many paps wind up abnormal due to various reasons. Last year I had the same thing happen. But, they just had me go back in to do another pap. After speaking with the Dr. - we realized it came out abnormal because I was getting a urinary tract infection. So, try not to worry to much. Good luck at your next Dr.'s appt. and keep us posted.

Re: Month to go, why now!-long

Do not stress. These things are very common. I had a few abnormal pap smears a few years ago and I did both the colposcopy and the cryosurgery (freeze abnormal cells for removal). Everything turned out fine and I have not had any problems. The two procedures were just a little uncomfortable. If you have any specific questions you can send me a forum mail and I will try to answer them.

Re: First things First

Go get a second PAP, I had one come back abnormal and when I took it again it was normal. There was a detailed article in the paper years ago about how Labs are inidated (spell ?) with Pap smears waiting for results and the lack of technical people to perform them, and they send it to other labs that are not even suitable to do this sort of test. In my opinion I would do a second one before any procedure was performed. Good Luck and let us know how it went.

Re: First things First

I know someone whose test came back abnormal so they had to go back. It turns out that everything was fine. They must have made a mistake. They had them all worried about nothing. Hopefully yours comes back fine also. Good luck.

Re: Month to go, why now!-long

don't be scared...sometimes paps are abnormal if you get them done close to your period...my mom always had problems like that but they ended up being fibrous growths or tissue, etc...

i will pray for you, please let us know how it goes..

Re: Month to go, why now!-long

Don' worry hun.. just relax.. I went through the same thing about 2 years ago and freaked because I thought I had cancer and I wouldn't be able to have kids! I did both the colposcopy and the cryosurgery like crisco..Everything turned out ok and my paps since then have been normal..

An abnormal pap can be caused by anything.. stress, change in hormones, change in ph levels.. or like was mentioned, if you have one right after your period or sometimes if you have sex before...

Re: Month to go, why now!-long

abnormal paps are very normal....I had one and it turned out I had a bacterial infection...nothing big...

my mom also had precancerous cells detected...and had them removed (this happened to her 4-5 times) she is fine...

think of it this way...you are lucky that theyfound this NOW!! EARLY!!!

best of luck...and don't stress...it just causes more damage to your body...I know thats hard...but drink some green tea...take a bubble bath...make FH rub your back and feet (hey! why not!!?)

Re: Month to go, why now!-long

there has been alot of this on the board lately. I would not worry until I had to. It can be that you are getting an infection or you might have pushed unfriendly bacteria up there during sex. Please let us know what happens. Good luck!

I see that this is much more common then we would ever think. Like the rest of the ladies say, don't stress, hope for the best, and make sure to get pampered by your FH !!!!!

Re: Month to go, why now!-long

Thank you sooooo much. I am glad to see I am not alone. Its just very frustrating this has to happen now. I apprciate all your support. I will keep you updated. I also called my dr because somebody said to get a second pap. They said they do if they think its just a virus or something, but there was something there that is requiring them to do this test. Thank you though for the advise. And thank you again girls for all your advise & encouragement.
