For the last two weeks, I'm been trying to scan my wedding photos into my computer so I can show them off here. My scanner is not working and I want to put my old scanning program back on the computer (DH installed a new one a couple of months ago and I hate it). My computer is not accepting this old program, and since the Internet is down on my computer, I can't go to Epson.com. So I have no Internet and scanner on my computer. Last night DH tried to figure out what's going on, and he said he got a death blue screen (don't know what that is) and now my computer is dead. Mind you, I go back to work on Tuesday and I need my computer for work. So this weekend I'm buying a new computer! And I just paid off my credit card!

ohh no...blue screen of death is bad....that usually means your hard drive is fried!! Go treat yourself to a nice new computer! Dell has some awsome deals, sometimes they include things and alot of times they have free shipping!!

Blue screen doesn't mean death! You can reinstall the computer. It takes a long time and you might lose what you had on there, but you haven't fried anything just by installing a scanning software.
How old is your computer? What operating system did you have? How old is your scanner? These questions will help to answer why you got the Blue Screen of Death.

I dont know how much you know about computers, but the bluescreen isnt a huge huge deal. it is called the blue screen of death because its rare that a computer recovers from that. usually depending on your operating system all you have to do is reformat your hardrive and reinstall a new operating system. and you do that ONLY if your computer does not start back up after the blue screen. give the computer an hour or two and try to turn it on. it may just work. you could also have a virus, do you have any virus prtection software...have you been doing your windows updates assumeing you have a windows based machine. if your in the market for a new computer and you or your hubby knows a good deal about computers I suggest building your own computer from scratch , there are many rewards to doing this. you have a computer that will suit your needs specificly and it will be atleast 500 less expensive than any premade computer you can buy. but if you just want to buy it and never really have to worry about whats inside get a dell. to build your own piece by piece go here www.newegg.com then have the best prices and the best return policy on the net for computer parts enjoy

Loved the icons!
I'm using my DH's computer. I have a Dell Dimensional L733r which is 3 years old. I don't have a lot of memory on it and the hard drive is a bit slow. My DH builds computers as a hobby - in fact, our dining room table is full of computer crap. It may be cheaper to buy a new computer than to build one - which checked this out last night. But I need a working computer within a week since I need it for work. My scanner is also 3 years old. It's an Epson Perfection 610. I don't understand all of this computer lingo but DH said that I need a new computer. I've been having problems since the beginning with June with using up all my memory (according to DH, I didn't have a lot to begin with) and now all this. Personally, I would like to use my computer as a shotput.

Re: More computer troubles!
3 years old huh? probably not an upgradable machine then. you've probably maxed out your memory, you could probably use a faster CPU. your hard drive isn't slow - they don't have much in the way of speed. it's your CPU that may be slow, or your hard drive may be small.
i also vote for building your own. two xmas ago, i bought all the parts for dh for christmas. merry christmas, go build your own pc. we only had one small problem with the motherboard being a bad motherboard, but we exchanged it no problem.
we have a bit of an issue now with the power supply, but it works fine if you know how to treat it nice.
and i saved hundreds of dollars doing it this way.
AND we had all the parts from his old machine. we use them when fixing machines for family and friends.

Re: More computer troubles!
My DH looked online for parts and it will cost about $450 to build one. I can get one from Dell for about $360. Time is another factor - I need a new computer by next week!!! But if DH can get the parts quickly and build it quickly, then I would consider it. But I'm still waiting for him to do a couple of things that he promised would be done two weeks ago!
Why couldn't my computer break down in the middle of summer, when I didn't need it? My lesson plans are in my harddrive and guess what I'll be doing this weekend? Handwriting my lesson plans!
I think I have my mind set on just buying a new computer because I don't have to depend on DH to build one for me. It will be less stressful this way for me. I certainly couldn't build one on my own because I'm an idiot when it comes to computers!
