More opinions needed please! - thoughts on after party
If you all couldn't tell by now, I've been looking around to see what my options are. If I switch to an afternoon wedding, I would have an after party. For those of you who are having an after party, what are you actually responsible for? Is it ok to have a cash bar or should I still be paying for drinks? The thought of another $15-20pp for bar service makes my bank account cry! Also, what are you doing for food and music? Thanks in advance for the help! I have 11 weeks to go and am trying to somehow throw this all together!

I have an evening wedding and we're just looking for a hotel with a bar. I'm not paying for drinks, if you want to keep drinking partying you can but I'm not driving myself crazy trying to see how many people are.

You can def do a cash bar. I don't think anyone would expect you to keep paying for drinks after the wedding!

i've been to an afternoon wedding, and they planned an after party but nobody went =/i remember when they sent out the invites with the hotel info we decided that there was no point in staying over because our friend's mom just picked us up lol... I think the couple was a little disappointed though because they thought that more people would have come back to party some more, but it ended up that most people just headed home except for like out of towners
just something to consider! only you know your guest list though, so if you think that you could get a good crowd to hangout afterwards then go for it... I wouldn't pay for an open bar though, I think cash bar is fine after the wedding

Thanks for the input! I'm not counting on a big after party. Just something for the out of towers staying at the hotel. The hotel does have an open bar area with seating and an outside patio. From the responses it sounds like I can just tell ppl to meet there and not worry about blocking out extra space. What a relief!!

We are doing an afternoon wedding and our hotel is literally less than a quarter mile from the source mall we are doing an after party at dave and busters. I am not paying for drinks just cash bar, depending on how many people stay over night for the after party I may do a small buffet option. I know there is already 6 of our friends that got a hotel for the night already.

I know someone who had an after party. We all met at a bar near the hotel and just hung out. It was a lot of fun. I definitely don't think and people shouldn't expect that you have to keep paying for them after the party is over. Just make sure that the people that you want to come to the after party know in advance.

Our wedding ends at midnight, but we still plan to host an after party back at the hotel. There is no bar, but the meeting room is available for us to hang out in, and since the Hotel is a residence inn, each room has a Kitchen and there is an outdoor BBQ area that is open 24 hrs. We plan to provide some hot dogs and hamburgers that the groomsmen will grill up for any late night munchies, and although we are bring some beer to start the party, I've made it clear to friends to stock up with whatever booze they want for afterwards.

No one expects you to pay for drinks after the wedding! Our hotel had a minimum to keep the bar open, but it was late at night.

We are doing a card game at the hotel as an after party kind of thing. It's a family tradition with my FH family. His family doesn't really drink so we didn't really think of refreshments. His family in the past has everyone bring their own snacks to keep it relaxed

My sister had an afternoon wedding that ended around 3 or 4. So around 7 or 8, we went to her hotel room where everyone brought their own beer and we had pizza. There was about 20 of us and it was a lot of fun.
