Morning After Pill (Update and question at bottom)
Someone close to me has gotten herself into a predicament. She is a teenager. She is on birth control, but forgot her pill yesterday, and took 2 today. She had sex and the condom broke. Her period is set to come on Monday. Should she take the morning after pill?

Re: Morning After Pill
yes - it's not an abortion, it just prevents conception. its like a stronger dose of BC. if she's already preg it wont do anything
if she wants to take it, the sooner the better. it works w/in the first 5 days but effectiveness decreases the longer you wait

Yes, but the problem is the doctor isn't in tomorrow and Tuesday is New Years. Plus, she is a minor who does not want her parents to know.

No. She should call her GYN asap (they have beepers for stuff like this!) and discuss it. Generally if she is taking her BC pills on a regular basis and only forgets once, it is not enough to get her pregnant. Could it? Absolutely. Everyone is different. There ARE side effects of Plan B and others like it, so I suggest either way that she speak with her GYN.

you can beep the physician and have him call her cell phone. Parents won't know and he is OBLIGATED to call back if she pages

I'll call in the morning. Maybe they can write the prescription to me.

Re: Morning After Pill
she can also double up on pills or something like that (morning after pill is really just a stronger dose) but i wouldnt suggest doing that without talking to her gyno first. its an option if pharmacies are closed and gyno says to do it though

i think you might be able to call planned parenthood and they can give you that information.

I was just going to suggest the same thing. She can go to planned parenthood and won't have to pay a thing and her parents won't know.
They will call the house to check up on her, but will use like a 'code name' so the parents don't pick up on it.
This way she won't even have to be embarassed about going to her own physician or worry about what her parents will think.
If she is young and sexually active, you might want to suggest to her that she gets examined by one of the doctors at PP. . . .unless she already has a gyno.

Re: Morning After Pill
the morning after pill is OVER THE COUNTER in New York!!!
just go to any pharmacy and ask the pharmacist for 'Plan B' - all you need to be is over 18!

Re: Morning After Pill
the Morning after pill is available over the counter.. you or she can go to her local cvs and buy it.. it won't hurt her if she is already pregnant but if the egg hasn't implanted it will prevent that
it sounds like she is being responsible and an accident occured.. take her to get the MAP.. that's what its for.. it's not an abortion and there are no physical repercussions.

She has a gyno. She has regular checkups and is on the pill- originally because she has cysts. It was just that she forgot it yesterday, then took 2 today and this all happened.

Oh, she is probably fine then. If she already has a gyno, she should have them paged, as said above and just ask.
I'm sure she is alright though, they say it is okay if you miss a day and play catch up. . .. Good luck

Re: Morning After Pill
what week of her BC pill is she in? if you read the insert, depending on what week of the pill you missed it says you cannot get pregnant even if you miss a dose. i would still be worried i guess.....but she should really the call the doctor to find out if its even necessary to get the morning after pill.....
