FH finally set up the account after it being on his TO-Do list for months!
And We just recieved the little cards to include with the shower invitations!! They are actually very cute. I wish I had a scanner to show you.But on the one side it says 'A Bridal Registry Account has been set up for ______ & _______' The & sign is actually two wedding bands. then it explains what it is. On the other side, which is detachable is a note to us from our friends and family after they deposited money to tell us that they did it.

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
Dino I registered on www.thehoneymoon.com and am so excited about it. we have a house already and dont need millions of needless items around the house. i am registering for other things, like sheets and stuff, to give people options. everyone is in a different place in their life, so dont let anyone tell you that something is tacky. maybe it is for them, but for you it may be different. and good for you for thinking out of the box. and sorry if my opinion offends anyone else, but it is only MY opinion.

would you ever dare to call someone tacky to their face when they tell you of an idea for their wedding?

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
My opinions of the registry itself aside, I think including the registry cards in anything, even a shower invitation (even though the purpose is to shower the bride with gifts, but again, that's a whole different thread), is in poor taste.

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
i think that if you think its a good idea then you should go for it. my family are the types of people that would tell me to my face that it was tacky so its not something i would ever do but if you think that your family and friends would accept it then you should do what ever you think its right. i think that a better way of doing it would be to have your friends and family spend the word when people ask what they should get you that your saving for a house.

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
You know, if this was a wedding even 10 or 20 years ago, I might think this was a little over the edge. But we live on LI and everyone knows how expensive it is. You know your guests best, and if you are all comfortable with it, then I think it's a fabulous idea. A lot of people would much rather give a monetary gift knowing that it goes to something specific, rather than just a check. Good for you!!!!

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
It's your wedding, do what you want! You know your friends and family best, and I'm sure you know if they would be offended or not (and they are all who matter anyway).
Hey, I want a horse! Can I set up a 'Buy Wendy a horse' registry?! I want a horse more than a new toaster any day!!

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
i can understand people comments about asking for money.... but keep in mind...you are getting somehting of cash vaule...why don't we put it towards the dream of home ownership...to sit there and say, i need blenders and fancy coffee makers is kinda silly. if it was that important of an item in your live, you would already own it. I kinda agree with OP and the money should go towards what you we want ...
just my 2 sense...but i can see why the hositility

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
I personally wouldn't do it, but it is your wedding and I also think it depends on the kind of people who would be receiving this card. I know my family & FH's family would FLIP OUT on this because they are very old-fashioned. I also had a question that I think someone else asked - is this for your wedding or shower? Nowadays alot of people give gifts for the shower & money for the wedding. Personally, I'm not even enclosing registry cards for anything, if they want to know where I'm registered they'll find out by word of mouth (gotta love mommy!) By the way, we are also living together & found lots of stuff to put on the registry anyway .

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
If you already have a lot of house stuff, why register for anything at all... If you don't register, most likely people will bring cash to the reception!!!

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
Aren't you supposed to act like you are not recieving gifts?
I know giving gifts at a wedding is the appropriate thing to do, but arent' you not supposed to expect them??

even if you do register, 99% of the guests bring cash anyway.

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
Isn't the registry to help people get you something you could actually use? So many people, including myself find it so much easier to use a registry.. it takes a lot of stress away to find a gift. The registry eliminates you getting 50 of the same thing at your shower or 20 things that you really have no use for. I think registeries are great! BUt as far as a Mortgage Registry, I don't know.... buying a house is something that my FH have set as a goal for the two of us. I think that it would be more satisfying knowing that we bought our house together. If someone decides to give us money rather than a gift, that is fine... people know they have that option already.

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
I just think this is asking for money. Sure people give checks or buy gifts from a registry, but at least it is at their discretion. I know each person has to do what they want, but to be perfectly honest if I got a card like this I'd go and buy the cheapest, ugliest, non-returnable gift I could. And I know that is not a proper response, but soliciting money is just inappropriate as a wedding gift!
ETS: As a guest I'd feel more comfortable giving money in the context of a honeymoon registry than something like this (and I think honeymoon registries are the worst! - but I am entitled to my opinion) At least a honeymoon registry is wedding related! This is just greed.

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
I would check with your parents to see how something like a mortgage registry would be received. My family would be OFFENDED at the suggestion alone to the nth degree.
