how about in the city?
Depending on the size there are tons of spaces in the city. Puck Building Capitale Gotham Hall Angel Orensanz Foundation Prince George Ballroom
Let me think of more.....
ETA: Keep in mind that these places do not look like your typical LI catering hall, so if he still wants that look than maybe he should just focus on LI.
LOVE angel orensanz. Remind me now why my fh convinced me out of a city wedding well angel orensanz you have to end the party at 11pm so that was one problem
Remind me too. Oh yeah, it was because the site fees alone are ridiculous.
ugh, if only we could have afforded Ange Orensanz. I that place.
OH yeah thats right, stupid prices hahahaha...capitale you have to pay the electricity yourself
I still wanted to check out tribeca rooftop or bridgewaters but for some reason fh's family wasn't thrilled about a city wedding and also when reading the menu's for these places, i knew its not the food many of our guests are used to. They'd be like the kid in sopranos 'what no f*in zitti'
That's hysterical!
Capitale's not the only place like that...there was another loft space we checked out and if we stayed after the building closed (which was like 10 pm so of course we'd be there after) we'd have to pay for all 'overtime utilities' and the freakin building staff that would need to stay and lock up the building. You've gotta be f-ing kidding me!
...such a a gorgeous space though and the views at night were unreal. Oh well.

oh yeah some of the policies are ridiculous. Some spaces you have to pay for clean up crew and other ridiculous requests. Thats on top of the $300 pp hahahaha
i heard some ppl say that angel orensanz isn't that expensive though, i wonder

The Mandarian Oriental is really nice. It has been a long time since I did an event there but I am almost positive their ballroom was large.
You can also try the piers -- they have a lot of blank space you can work with.

actually definitely try cipriani's, people with money love this place hahaha
also check out the waldorf astoria
Its be a few years but the last time I did an event at the Waldorf all I kept thinking was god this place needs some serious updating. Not out of date just dingy and blah. They could have done that by now.

Mandarin Oriental is gorgeous and they do have a large ballroom. That's where I got engaged.

How many people do they have to host?
Atlantica has one of the best chefs around & the view is obscenely gorgeous. You are ON Westhampton Beach. Its beautiful in a simple, elegant way but maxes out at 225 ppl.

I think Candela just closed... or at least that's what I heard, my sources are sketchy at best sometimes.

Re: most expensive / exclusive ...
most of the 'big' museums and botanical gardens are expensive but also super amazing for an event. Here are a few:
NY Public Library Metropolitan Museum of Art (you cna have a party in the Egyptian Wing next to the actual Temple of Dendur!) Wave Hill (in Riverdale, Bronx) Planting Fields (in Oyster Bay) The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers

Completely forgot about the Library. It's soooo gorgeous. They did some shows there during fashion week a couple of years ago, the backdrop was unreal.
And MOMA. MOMA has great events too. I used to go to networking events there all the time.
