Most Stressful Wedding Experience

Original post by randella

So-- figured I'd ask-- what was the part about wedding planning that stressed you out most.. and how did you deal with it?

I never thought I would stress- but I am!! So- tips, advice, vents would be good to hear.

2nd part of post-- how pissed do you get when people call you Bridezilla for no friggin' reason at all!!

My step dad keeps doing this because I say e.g. 'I like calla liles'... Therefore I am Bridezilla cause I have an opinion. Then again, this man has a habit of telling you 'look tired' before you head out for a big event and you are all done up..

Re: Most Stressful Wedding Experience

I think most things about planning have stressed me out at one time or another, but the worst is probably yet to come... waiting for RSVPs because my family is notorious for not sending them back. We invited about 235 and I'm hoping for under 200, so that's another issue with waiting on RSVPs.

ETS: I'm sorry, RSVPs are the second most stressful thing. My bridesmaids are the real issue! They haven't helped with anything and are even coming up short for the money they agreed to put in for my shower. I think it's BS!

Don't ask!! Let'a just say I have 2 MOH's and one is absolutely the worst by far!!!!!!
Choosing her was a huge mistake but now I have to deal with it cuz I opened my BIG FAT MOUTH and asked without thinking about it, for years!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Most Stressful Wedding Experience

The day before the wedding having my husband's family call and tell me that they all have the flu and would not be coming. I had a small wedding to begin with...130 people. 15 of them mysteriously got the flu? Thankfully the hall did not charge me for the dinners.

Again, hubby's family...uncle decided to taste the wedding cake by taking his finger and running along side the cake, licking his finger and doing it again!!!! Double dipping no less??!!!

And this one is good. My family..cousin of my mothers telling me that her daugter is my size and would fit into my dress and could she borrow it. Hey how about wait until I'm done with it!

We had a small wedding, mind you (wound up being a smidge under 100) .. Yet without a doubt waiting for the responses and planning the seating was definitely the most stressful part of my planning

I simply will never understand why some people choose NOT to sent the reply card back one way or the other. We got some verbal 'yes' and 'nos' the week b/f the weding, and still had a couple 'no-shows'

The entire wedding planning process is stressful , of course ... but I honestly didn't go haywire over the other stuff as much as the RSVP issue

Honestly, dealing with those close to us who should have been a hell of a lot more supportive. My FH and I have planned and payed for this whole thing ourselves (not really complaining it has been a given) but ask someone to show up at a certain place and time for something and all we have gotten is problems!!!

dealing with my parents

I think once we chose a reception site, everything else has been going smoothly.

I have an almost clear picture in my head of what i want/ like to have .....had a revelation to have christmas tree ornaments as a favor since 1) our wedding is right after thanksgiving and people will be putting up their trees and 2) he proposed by tricking me into thinking i had one more ornament to put up...but inside the box was the little velevet box insteead of his baby's 1st x-mas ornament

Re: Most Stressful Wedding Experience

OK-- I am like only 5 months into wedding planning process.. I thought that since I have not had any stresses yet, with the exception of my whole wedding dress experience (which I am still in the midst of) I would be a well behaved bride..

You guys are scaring me!! Did you guys put dates on your RSVPs-- like resond by X date?

Re: Most Stressful Wedding Experience

It does NOT matter if you put 'please respond by X date' on the rsvps. I had OVER 100 people NOT respond by the rsvp date. I ended up calling and emailing many people. Then you have the people that tell you on the phone whether or not they are coming, but claim they lost the invitation so can't send it back, which makes it harder for you to keep track. Then you have the people that rsvp yes, then say 'no' the week of the wedding after you already gave your minimum count. Then you have the people that respond with more guests than were invited. Then you have the people who respond yes or no without writing their name so you don't know who it's from.

LOTS of fun!

Seriously, not trying to scare you at all but it will help you immensely if you are at least prepared because this happens to everyone. You should number your rsvp's lightly with pencil on the back for the people who don't write their names. And you should make your rsvp date at least a month prior to the wedding to give yourself time to call people.

The original guest list process in the very beginning when we were trying to set a budget/date

And now ... the honeymoon! Since we are traveling sooo far and to such an untraveled desitnation (Africa) .. it's been nothing but headaches to nail down the itinerary.

Am I the only one that didn't have this happen? I can't believe peeps are so dumb! My rsvps were a little late in some cases and I had to chase people down. My favorite is the ones that not only rsvp late, but then add the rest of their extended family!

Oy-- I know those are all good things to do.. re: the numbers, sending out invited earlier.. fun fun.

Another question regarding RSVP's-- how do you handle B listers? I guess if we really do not want 50 some odd people to show up- we probably don;t need a B list-- but we were thinking about it-

If peeople never respond- how can you possilbly manage a B list and get those invited out in time for them to NOT realize they are on a B list?

FH's family and the Guest list. It is apparently unreasonable of me to ask for a guest list any sooner than 2 weeks before the wedding.

How Awful of me.

Re: Most Stressful Wedding Experience

We didn't have a 'B' list b/c anyone who would have been on that list would have definitely known they were B listed. But in my opinion the only way a B list will work is if you get a lot of 'no' replies right away after you send out the invites.

Re: Most Stressful Wedding Experience

we;ll probably skip the B list.. If we have under 210, which is our minimum commitment, then we;ll bring people in off the street!

Collecting addresses. For some reason, this has been hell for me.
