Mother and Bride Dance ( Is this weird)

I don't want to sound silly and I certainly don't want to LOOK silly but I would love to have a dance with my mom.
I am not one to have to follow tradition much I guess.
I am having a dance with my father, just also wanted a dance with my mom, probably to 'wind beneath my wings' cause it makes me think of her and how much I look up to her
Anyways, do you guys think that, that is strange to do?

Makes me tear up thinking about doing it..
PLEASE tell me to Go For It

Re: Mother and Bride Dance ( Is this weird)

Go for it!
I am also dancing with my mom.
She picked a Celine Dion song (i forget the name) that she loves.
I feel I want to dance with both my parents, my MOH also did this and I cried like a baby watching them.

Again, GO FOR IT!

Re: Mother and Bride Dance ( Is this weird)

Go for it, it sounds like you really want too~~~~~..

I will regular dance with my mom she parties with the best of us.

But my dance with my Father is really his spotlight dance so I wouldn't personally want to slow dance with my mom, even though she is one of my best friends. My mother will join my brother on the dance floor.

Re: Mother and Bride Dance ( Is this weird)

I've been to a couple of weddings where the bride danced with her mom, and it was very nice. It is your day, and a wonderful time to honor those you want to...I say go for it!!!!

Re: Mother and Bride Dance ( Is this weird)

I just went to a wedding with a Mother/Daughter dance. I think it was very sweet but YES - it does look odd to have too woman, alone on the dance floor together. But who cares? Do what you want.

Re: Mother and Bride Dance ( Is this weird)

I felt funny dancing with my mom. I dedicated a song to her while i danced with my step dad and my husband danced with my mom. Halfway through thte song I kissed my mom and then switched to dance with my husband while mom danced with her husband.

Re: Mother and Bride Dance ( Is this weird)

My father died two years ago so I won't have a father/daughter dance and was thinking of a mother/daughter dance too. I was thinking about the song 'You've Got a Friend' by James Taylor. I was also thinking that midway thru the dance my fiance would take over and dance with my mom. I thought the song would be appropriate for both but my fiance thinks it isn't a good song to dance to. By the way, neither of my fiance's parents are alive so this will be our only parent dance. What do you all think?

Re: Mother and Bride Dance ( Is this weird)

I had a dance with my dad and also had a dance with my mom. I have seen it quite a few times at other weddings. We are very close and she had been there for me always. I was kicking it around too, but am glad we did it. Good luck!

Re: Mother and Bride Dance ( Is this weird)

You definately should, If my mother was still alive I would definately definately have a dance with her. What I am going to do is during the dinner dedicate a little song to my aunt (because she has done so much for me I can't even thank her enough) and dance with her, so everyone can enjoy eating and they don't have to have all eyes on us, which they probably will anyway

Re: Mother and Bride Dance ( Is this weird)

I would say maybe an upbeat song and then ask others to join in....I do not see anything wrong with this at all...Its your day...do what makes you happy.

All the best and happy planning

Re: Mother and Bride Dance ( Is this weird)

Definitely go for it. It is not silly at all. I want to dance with my mom, but she won't (doesn't want all the eyes on her.) So instead, I am just dedicating a song to her.

Best of luck!

Bridetobe,
I thought my husband would be the same way so I never mentioned it to him. In fact, I only told people on this board. If you would like to do it, go for it

Re: Mother and Bride Dance ( Is this weird)

I danced with my mom!! I am really close with my mother and felt she deserved a special dance :)
We danced to Celine Dion 'Because you loved me' it was very sentimental....we danced alone for a few minutes and then invited everyone up to the dance floor to join. A few female guests danced with their moms too!! You should ABSOLUTELY do it.
