Motivation but im worried!!

So I bought my gown already and it has even come in dispite davids bridal telling me it would take 8 months.

Last year I lost 40lbs and needless to say im so unhappy that I put it all back on sigh

Now I am finally getting motivated to do it again because I just cant stand how I feel and having clothes not fit anymore but my mom is freaking me out!! She says if I lose too much weight (more than a dress size) they wont be able to alter it and ill end up having to buy a new dress.

I dont want this to be the reason I dont do it!! I have always been big busted thin or not and being that its a strapless ball gown id be thinking I need to the same size just to fit the girls and if I were thinner theyd need to take in the waste.

So im at a loss girls. Help me out! I dont want to regret my wedding photos.

Xo
Allison

If David's Bridal can't alter your dress bc you went down more than one dress size, then bring it somewhere else! Alterations are a HUGE part of your wedding dress and the seamstress should be able to do ANYTHING to your dress. Don't be unhappy with the wedding pictures for fear someone won't be able to do the job! WORK IT OUT :) HTH!

I agree! There's no reason they shouldn't be able to alter the dress if you go down or up sizes. I admit I myself was worried still am to a degree. I purchase my dress almost a year ago now and I ordered a 16, they told me I should really go with size 18 but I refuse to pay an extra 150 for the plus size. Now I'm nervous because I haven't lost any weight that I wanted
to to be more comfortable but I know they can still alter it to fit better. Still hoping I lose about 20 pounds within the next 4 months just hate going to the gym without a gym buddy.

I just looked at your dress its gorgeous! It's similar to mine. At bridal suite of bay shore they told me worse case is the back they would alter it to a corset style but that is the worst case. The back occurs dress is very similar to mine

So basically you want the lose the 40lbs you had lost when you tried on your dress? (i'm better with actual numbers so these are my for instance weights) When you ordered your dress you were 140. Now you're up to 180. Now you just want to go back to 140?

I dont think this will be a problem. Most places will be able to alter the dress down 2-3 sizes.

I just found my dress and I'm planning on losing more weight and having reconstructive surgery and the salon said they can typically go 2-3 sizes down if necessary.

A good seamstress can do anything
For my friends wedding there was a mix up in sizing for the bridesmaids dresses and a few of them were way too big. It was too late to get new ones so a few girls went to a seamstress who basically reconstructed the dresses.

Motivation but im worried!!

I watched an episode of Say Yes to the Dress a few weeks ago where the woman lost 117 lbs and they altered the dress to fit her. It took a little longer and they basically had to pull the dress apart and reconstruct it, but the alterations department did it. If the David's Bridal alterations can't do it, don't get discouraged. It's completely possible.

Katielynn, no more like I was 140 got back up to 180 bought the dress at 180 and now I wanna go back down to 140 but was afraid of them messing up the dress. I suppose a good seamstress can do it if DB cant.

Re: Motivation but im worried!!

My sister in law was a size 0 or 2 when she got married 5 years ago. She bought an Ann Barge sample gown at a boutique in a size 10 because it was $2000 cheaper than ordering a new gown. They took the gown from a size 10 down to a size 2 to fit her and it looked GORGEOUS!! You would have never known that the dress was WAY too big when she bought it. If you're not happy, do what you WANT to do and don't let any seamstress tell you it can't be done. You want to feel good about yourself on your wedding day. I say GO FOR IT!!

Motivation but im worried!!

My mom had the same concerns when I bought my dress, but my bridal consultant told me they would never punish someone for losing weight. They can take in dresses A LOT. I wouldn't worry about it, it is so much better than a dress being too small!!

Motivation but im worried!!

I'm ALMOST POSITIVE that with enough time and depending on the David's bridal that if the alteration isn't a good idea they will order you an all new dress. I've heard of them doing this before. Don't let this stop you. You wear the dress the dress doesn't wear you!
