Re: Moving in together...

OMG MAZZ... I just went through that...
Yesterday I was laying in the bed with my knee throbbing and i said 'Oh my... Look how much I have... Oh my... LOOK HOW MUCH I HAVE TO GET RID OF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

And then started to panic. Like 'Where will my stuff go? When are we going to finish it?' (We gutted the entire basement so its all new) and then started topanic because it's like, I come home to a house by myself now lol...

But I'm okay now. I realized we would have scrappy doggie and I could run upstairs to hang out with his mom...

heres what we gutted... scary...but now we have walls

I think a condo is the way to go... especially since the market has gone down. You'll probably end up spending the same amount on rent as you would if you got a condo.

prob with that is we have NOTHING to put down... sometimes i wish we just werent planning the wedding and used the money for a down payment on a condo

Ant says to me all the time, lets forget the wedding and use all the money to put down on a house. I know that is the more sensable thing to do but, I have waited soooo long for this I want my day, .

ya know, the whole wedding isnt even a big deal to me... i feel like im just going through the motions... i much rather have used the $$ for a place to live

If i wasn't saving for a wedding forget about a condo... I'd have a down payment for a house. And a couple of brand new coach purses

I live in Astoria--born and raised and I LOVE IT!!

I would only move out when I want a family and want to buy a house. Homes are WAY too expensive here!

yea.... i'd onyl get a house if it were down south... so we're not doin the home route... i'll be perfectly happy in a nice condo and gladly pay maintainence fees so i dont have to do everything that comes with a house... im lazy and FH isnt the most handy man in the world

oh god im the same way, ive been thinking i want a condo instead of a house, i get scared in the suburbs anyway lol....its too quiet for me

My and my FH live in my condo I bought before we met (a condo for one is now for two, and a cat) and we love not having the chores. Plus, most condos have the amenities like the pool, gym (which I don't use), and newer one's even have shops and cafe's in them, which is great. We're considering upgrading to a larger (2 or 3 bedroom) once it's baby time, and perhaps NOT going into a house . . . . .

good luck . . . this is such an exciting time -- . . . you're making me feel so old though . . . I've been out of my parents house for about 13 years now. Holy Cow!!!!!! You'll love being on your own, and especially with the man you love!!!

We're moving in together in two months too. It flies so fast! I already moved out of the house once with an ex, so I'm not as nervous. Just really looking forward to it!

We used our local newspaper's website to find stuff. They were hooked up with Apartments.com and we also signed up for Rent.com. The complex we ended up going with is on both of those websites, but because we used Rent.com we get $100 off the security deposit when we sign our lease. I think we also get the 13th month free.

Re: Moving in together...

We found our place on Craigslist. You can find places through realtors or owners on there. We love our apt. We have been here for 1.5 years. The hardest part was getting used to living together.....much different than just spending time at each others places.

Re: Moving in together...

Gina, they just finished building a duplex right next to my house....I definately think you should move in and then we can be neighbors...The windows are even with mine so we could just open both of our windows and chat across the driveway

On a more serious note...I found my apartment on craigslist. It took us around 2 months to find it...We had to look at a ton of sh*tholes before finding ours. Be prepared, a few we looked at had roaches calling all over the kitchen, paint peelng off the walls...It was horrible

It would be amesome if you moved to Queens!!! No more tolls to pay...

Congrats to you and Vin..It will take some getting used to but once you work past all the little things it's awesome. I could never picture living without Jose..

try not to be nervous, living together is the best thing ever!!!

Re: Moving in together...

Be careful with Craigslist... a lot of apartments advertised on there are nothing like they're listed as. We live in North Flushing, it's very nice. Other nice areas are Bayside, Whitestone, Glen Oaks, and Douglaston. They all feel very 'home-y' - not like apartment living.

What kinds of prices are we looking at?

Re: Moving in together...

FH and I live (rent) in Queens - def try craigs list for owner listed . Saving the agents fee can be a big help!

I love Astoria. It is pricey then say Jackson heights but so close to the city and no tolls to LI. Also like bayside, Whitestone and Kew Gardens.
