so on our way out to the hamptons yesterday, we kept passing by all these nice apts/condos and I was writing down the names and such so I could look them up on the comp later on...
Well, on the way back home, I said, 'yea, we should start looking for apts because i mean we have to get one in .... let see this is may... we need one by julyish... so thats 2 months...' It was at that point that I completely freaked out, heart palpatations and the works... thinkin wow how did i not realize it was THIS soon... This whole time I didnt realize that I was moving out of mom and dads within 2 months... I think I'm still a little on edge about it.. Its weird the way things suddenly hit you
On that note, if you're still reading this, can anyone suggest resources for apt rentals? We cannot afford to buy anything just yet so we'll be renting before the wedding! Sux, but what can ya do?!?

Be careful with Craigslist... a lot of apartments advertised on there are nothing like they're listed as. We live in North Flushing, it's very nice. Other nice areas are Bayside, Whitestone, Glen Oaks, and Douglaston. They all feel very 'home-y' - not like apartment living.
What kinds of prices are we looking at?
for an apartment probably around $1200... for a basement probably $900-1100 depending on where you are.

I live in Astoria--born and raised and I LOVE IT!!
I would only move out when I want a family and want to buy a house. Homes are WAY too expensive here!
I grew up in Astoria too! FH still lives there and alot of my fam still lives there....it's so expensive but it's so great to be there, I practically live there still, there's so much to do.
Did you really? Where did youo grow up? I lived right off of ditmars!
Do you live near 21st, I think that is where my sister used to live and my FSIL lives right around the corner from where my sis was.

If you are thinking of the island check out heatherwoodcommunities.com or fairfieldproperties.com they both have apartment complexes all over.

Apartments.com, Craigs list is always a good place to start. Depending on how much leg work u want to do or if u want to pay the broker fees i recommend using a realtor, it's easier for them to do the work for you.

LOL FH was just on Craigslist today looking at apartments too and it freaked me out a little!
I already moved out of my parent's house and rent a house with my sister and one other girl... living with FH will definitely be a change though. Hopefully a good change.

That's funny that you said how nervous you felt by just imagining moving out of you parents home. I lived at home my whole life and my fiance was looking at houses and I was so depressed the whole week. I want to move out but so sad because nothing will be the same. It gets over whelming. I plan on moving in 7 months-Scary. the worsty part is that I am from Queens and my fiance is from Suffolk so I will live at least 40 minutes from my family. I am excited for you but also know how you feel.
