Moving out of Parents House

Moving out of Parents House

I remember this being posted on the 09' boards but for the girls who are moving out of their parents house for the first time after the wedding... how was it? Or how do you think it's going to be?

Now that we have bedroom furniture I stayed over the apt this weekend with FH (only saying over on the weekends) and before I went to bed I called my mom and went to the fridge to pet a picture of my doggie cuz he always sleeps with me. Sad sad I know lol.

Re: Moving out of Parents House

I'm no help. I moved out in Dec'06 and it was one of the hardest things I've ever done. I wanted to get out so badly, but then when DH and I finally found our apartment, I was so upset to leave. But I think it was also harder because my dad was selling our house later that month as well, so it was like I NEVER got to go back.

I wrote in another post every night when I go to bed this week I think '3 more nights in my room...' and get so sad. I am not dealing with this well, and we move out on Sat.

I just cried about this about a half hour ago

Re: Moving out of Parents House

yeah, no help here either i never really went back to my parents after college- for summers sort of but literally right after i graduated i moved here from toronto and a year later moved in with FH. even when I went home for summers from college i wanted out so badly. i was thrilled to be on my own and was so used to it by the time I moved in with FH

BUT i do think what you're feeling is totally normal and it will start to fade. staying over the weekends for now is a good way to get used to it and in no time your home with FH will be home!!

Moving out was very hard but I needed to do it b/c 1) I needed to make sure FH and i can make this whole living with each other thing work 2) my parents were driving me nuts 3) I felt it was time...

I miss my cats and I miss my parents sometimes, and i miss seeing my siblings but I think my relationship is better now with them. And my parents moved on too, they even made my room into an office/gym! lol

I wasn't sad leaving my moms house, it wasn't the house that I grew up in, I had lived there for about 10 years, I didn't feel like I was attached to the house. I felt like it was time to get out.

Once I left I did miss from time to time not having the ability to go into my sister's room to take things to borrow-like shoes or something.

Re: Moving out of Parents House

i think its going to be really weird at first and a bit hard..........I am not moving into the apt until after the wedding, but FH might stay there the weekends leading up to the wedding when we will be swamped with appts and last minute stuff.

The biggest thing will be not seeing my nephew everyday (my sis, BIL and nephew live with us now while their house is being completely renovated) so I know I will miss seeing him...of course I will mis my parents, being down the block from my sister and family, but things could be worse. I am moving 15 minutes away so its not like im in a different state or country. I do plan on seeing my family on a regular basis anyway, so I am hoping that helps the transition as well.....

When I first moved out of my dad's house, I had a pretty hard time adjusting and I still miss it once and a while. When I go to my dads after a rough day or what not, I walk in and am like, ahhhhh, because it's a comfort that you have always know, and there is less responability there. But, it does get better and I definitely needed that space from my dad, it has made our relationship that much stronger. Plus, every once in a while I will stay over because I live about an hour away.

Re: Moving out of Parents House

I moved out very gradually - staying at FH's apt until my curfew in college. So by the time I moved out I felt like being someplace with him was more 'homey' than my parents house.

I love my parents like crazy and loved living at home. But I loved the feeling of independence just as much. You form a new 'family'. I see and talk to my parents all the time, then I get to go back to my home, the home FH and I have created, and that's a great feeling.

It will be a adjustment, so give yourself time, but I know you will love it!!!

Re: Moving out of Parents House

I am having major seperation anxiety with leaving home. I am not dealing well with it. Almost to the point that my mom was worried that I didn't want to live with FH. Its not that its just that I am moving out of my parents house and into an apt in someone elses house. I love my apartment but I have it really good at home. I am looking forward to living with FH and Im sure it wont be so bad.
While we are on our honeymoon FSIL is moving back home with my FIL's and they said they would just bring the box truck to my house and move me out while I am gone. I freaked a little bit because I feel like I need that closure of moving myself out of my house. I dont want to come home and feel like i was kicked out of my house and not even by my rents by my FIL's. They dont see what the big deal is but it is a big deal.

Re: Moving out of Parents House

I moved out of my parent's house back in 05 I want to say... I was SO FREAKIN SAD. In the morning my mom and I would always have tea together and there were always people around (I have three younger siblings) and I just felt like I was missing out on everything. Like I'd find out they went out to breakfast on a random Sunday and I'd be so upset they didn't call me. It took a month or so and I got over it. Luckily we didn't have any pets at the time or I probably would have kidnapped them and took them with me.

Re: Moving out of Parents House

I am moving out this weekend! FH is dealing with it worse than I am, but when I think about that I will never 'live here' again it makes me sad.

Nice to know we are not the only nuts people who are sad to move (even though we LOVE our new apt)
