Hi! I was curious about other married couples moving to LI wo kids. I am kinda nervous about making friends, since my husband and I work long hours in NYC, and don't have kids. I have lots of friends in NYC, but not many on LI. Any ideas? Thanks so much!

We dont have kits right now either. A lot of our friends don't have them yet.
What area of LI are you looking at?

Thanks for the responses! We just closed on Friday on a house in Merrick. I'm so excitied to finally own something. But we don't know many people in the community and I am a bit nervous about meeting people since we don't have kids yet and don't work on LI (we both work in NYC).

Felicia get involved in a local gym and other activites. There are a lot of LIW girls that live in that area and when we have a GTG you should come and meet people!!!!

I was in the same situation as you and I have found it really hard to be honest. (I live in Bellmore.) Most of my neighbors have kids so I feel left out. Acout a year and a half later I am kind of starting to talk more to them. Most of the people I have made friends with on LI so far have originated from this site actually...that has been the best resource! DH joined the local gym and hated it - people were so not friendly and very different - he missed the city gym where he had tons of friends.
I just had a baby so I hope that opens up more opps.

Welcome to LI. I am lucky enough that I moved very close to where I grew up but my DH is not from around here. He met friends kind of through work. There is this one bar in Huntington that has a pretty regular crowd and he started joining a coworked for happy hour. After a while, these people have become very good friends of his.

i think there are alot of young couples moving to long island to start there lives myself and my dh included. you arent alone.

I live in Suffolk and I still socialize in the city a lot (I lived there for a while). It is not the same as living there but I do still see my city friends often. I no longer work in the city and what I miss most is having lunch with my city friends. I have made some LI friends, not from any one specific place, it was just gradual. I am sure you will meet people also. My FH runs a summer share house, so we are fortunate that all of our friends convene in one place on the summer weekends.
