Ms. or Mrs???

If a person is divorced but still has her husbands last name are they a Ms. or Mrs.?

I'm working on Place cards and I want to make sure I'm correct in terms of that.

I had a couple of those circumstances. I just put Ms. for these people. I think it's the safest.

I just wish i knew the 'rules'. I guess Ms. is the safest bet.

I think what I've read is if the woman kept her husband's last name she's still Mrs. but if she goes back to her maiden name it's Ms.

I only kept Mrs if they were widowed. Divorced got Ms.

Ms. is universal - can mean anything.

this is what i did as well.

my mom only kept her married name so it was easier on me growing up and for school stuff...but she would def have been mad/upset if she saw her stuff say mrs. x so i kept my mom in mind and used ms. (regardless if it was correct or not).

Ms. My sister's MIL is divorced and hates to be called Mrs. Sounds like a few people on here have stories like that!

Def Ms.

If they are divorced, they are no longer married, therefore no longer Mrs.

As a previous poster said, many keep married name for kids' sake only, still Ms. though.
