ms. vs. miss (Invitation help)

Does anyone know if there is a difference in using ms. or miss?

I say ms. should be used for older woman and miss should be used for the younger.

My FH disagrees.

Please help.

I always go with Ms. no matter what the age is because I just think it's nicer than Miss. I'm sure there some kind of 'rule' about it that I've been breaking for years, but I personally prefer Ms., so I assume others do as well. Miss just sounds very young to me.

I would use Ms. unless you are addressing it to a child. I'm think there is a suggested cut off age when you should start using Ms. but I'm not sure what it is. 16 or 18 maybe?

I used Ms. for every single lady except if they are really young (under 16).

I equate Miss to Master (under 16 or so)

and Ms. with Mr.

Miss is a title that is commonly used for a female that is not married. Ms. is a termed used by a married woman that has retained her name(has not taken her husband's name after the marriage). Since the women's liberation movement, society has moved to use Miss for girls up to 18 years of age and often uses Ms. for over 18 years of age. If you use Miss for anyone that is single, female and never married I don't think you can go wrong. LOL
