Re: music during cocktail hour?

Most bands and DJs include a small setup for the cocktail hour. It'll probably be part of your package.

My band includes a keyboard and trumpet player to play some jazz music during the cocktail hour.....a nice touch.

Re: music during cocktail hour?

I don't think people will notice. If it is not withing your budget and you want to allocate the money elsewhere, I would.

Re: music during cocktail hour?

I don't think people notice what type of music it is, but when there is no music playing in the background people might notice that. A little background music is always good.

Re: music during cocktail hour?

I went to a wedding at the East Inn last month and they had a sax player playing jazz music in the background...It was a nice touch and it gave the Cocktail Hour an incredible feel. I'd probably would have done something like that but I'm allocating the $$$ in other things.

Re: music during cocktail hour?

I think if it's outside it's less noticeable. Depends upon how many people and if it's inside or outside.

They are only supposed to be background so I doubt anyone except a LIW bride or an other musician atendign as a guest would notice.

We had out CH outside & had a guitarist and I'm not sure if anyone really noticed. Although I was surprised at how much I could hear it on my video raw footage ... so who knows!

Re: music during cocktail hour?

Your DJ should include it. We were going to get a piano player for the cocktail hour, but we're deciding against it now because we don't think anyone will notice. Since we have an outdoor cocktail on the water, we're going to have the DJ play calypso music for that hour.

You are so right. LIW Brides will notice because we know how much love and work is put into each detail but I think also anyone who is detailed will notice as well. I'm one of those who usually notices things people don't even think about. Great Observant Here!!

Re: music during cocktail hour?

CH music sets the mood. People are drinking, eating and the music gets them ready for the real party! We are planning on having a 3 piece steel drum band for our CH.

Re: music during cocktail hour?

You can notice it.

when I worked in catering people would often times NOT get music for the cocktail hour - and to me, it felt like something was missing.

It's an extra special touch and it adds nice ambience to the cocktail hour.

We had a jazz trio.
