Music question -Re: a Live Band - Cost Estimates

I found an amazing band to play at my wedding but I wasn't sure if I was getting an extra high price or a competitive price..
Anyone know the going rate for a live band for the reception? It's a 5 piece band if that helps.
Also, is it common for bands to allow an ipod to play during dinner/cocktail hour? Is this usually included (nothing was mentioned in the contract which is why I was seeing if I should negotiate that into it.)

I looked at a bunch of bands; the cheapest I found was $5500, and the highest was 10k+. It's a big range.

A 5 piece band shouldn't be extraordinarily pricey, my band is 11 pieces and most of the other bands I looked at were 8 or 9 pieces. They usually price per member.
