Does the photographer take pics of people during the cocktail hour? Wondering....

I made up a list of 'Must Take Shots' but it's not very long. My list of 'Do Not Take Shots' is much longer!
I really don't care for the 'traditional' wedding picture poses, like the bride and groom looking down at their rings, the groom and best man shaking hands while looking directly at the camera, the bride putting on her earring, the bride's train fanned out with the bridesmaids' bouquets placed on the train, etc.

Something to think about!

i'm with you!

i want to document the event not formulate it. i want the pictures to tell a story. i want raw emotion captured, not oh-my-gosh-take-the-picture-already fake grins.

15-20 minutes MAX formal family pics at church after the ceremony, that's it. everything else will be candid and fun!

Thanks Lisa. I want some formal shots and the other fun ones too. I just need to get a good list for my photographer other than the basics.

Re: Must Take Shots

One thing to keep in mind is to give the photographer a list of less than 50 shots I was told. Most of the ones listed here are 'standard' shots that people have taken so the candid ones you really want to be taken may get missed if the photographer has to read a list of 'standard' shots.

p.s. - I too only want like 20 to 25 minutes of formals. I am much more of the candid kind of gal. Come on, how many formal poses can I do with my bridal party and parents???
