Mutiple receptions..would love advice!

I was married in a small ceremony in April, this summer I am planning receptions in NY and CA. (My family is on the east coast, his is on the west, and we have some relations who can not make a big trip.)
I would like to hear from anyone who has done this, or eloped and had a celebration later.
How did you make the later receptions special?
Did you have dancing? Toasts? A blessing? Did you wear your wedding dress?
I am considering having a causal beach party, maybe in Montauk or the North Fork. Has anybody had a reception on the beach? Did you have a tent?
