After the roller coaster that was friday .... here's what happened Sat. night ...

We were scheduled to have dinner at 8:00 at Mangia e Bevi in the city - 53rd and 9th ave. I was looking forward to this for a month!!! We had a reservation for 13 and checked in early after confirming the res. the night b/f.

If any of you have been there, you know how small it is .... especially by the bar area. Well, we were all there waiting and it was crowded! the 'owner' as he claimed he was, was yelling at us to leave the bar, that we couldn't stand there. Everyone was getting annoyed b/c there was no place to stand & wait & we wanted drinks.

At 8:30 I asked how long it was going to be for a table, that we had an 8:00 res. and we had somewhere to be. First he tried to say that he didn't have our res. but the other idiot said that he found it. Finally, 15 min. later, they were setting up our table.

I come over to check it out and he's putting 12 people around a long table that would comfortably seat 8. I said, NO WAY! We wanted the extra table, which he had, that we couldn't eat that way.

SO ... he tells me 'that's it! I've had it w/you and your friends .... we're not serving you .... you better find someplace else to eat' I flipped !!!

After arguing for a few minutes, I said how this was b***S***!! and tossed my drink onto the table. As I reached for the second glass ... he grabbed someone else's drink ... a vodka/cranberry ... off a table ... and threw it right in my face!!

At this ... I'm stunned ... screaming ... and being helped out by my friends who witnessed it all. He says he'll get the cops & I said ... YOU GET THEM HERE, NOW!! My sister is calling them to report and assault & they show up in minutes! THREE CHEERS FOR MIDTOWN NORTH PRECINT!!!!

When the cops showed up, they went to find him & this goon was hiding in the back of the rest. They were marvelous! Calmed me down, took my name & wrote said that they would file a report for me so I could go out w/ my friends.

Meanwhile I was soaked, I had spent $50 0n a makeup trial & my clothes were stained from the drink! I was trying to hold it together ... my girlfriends were the best! Found a new rest. had a fantastic meal & a great night out at Metro 53. They were fabulous there. Treated us so well!

All's well that ends well, I guess, but we need to get back at him!!! We'll file a claim in small claims ... but I think I need more! How can I get the word out about this horrible ape & what happened? I'd like everyone to know about this!!!

PS ... I'd also like to get the fire marshall in there ... it was such a nightmare, anyone out there w/ those connections?

that is unbelievable!!!!!

i can't believe the nerve of that lowlife...i agree that you should do him as much damage as you could....he doesn't deserve to run a business...

I am so SORRY that happened to you what an A**! I am keeping that name of the restaurant registered in my head and I WILL NEVER give them business and I'll be sure to get the word out! I'm glad it didn't ruin your whole night though and you better get them in court! I'm in shock how dare he!! Keep us posted

I too have been to that restaurant MANY times, and have recommended it to more friends than I can count. But I have experienced a bit of 'tude' from the staff.

Definitely take him to small claims court. You will win

to update you:

Thanks to MichelleW .... I went on the link & printed up a copy of the complaint form. Included was a phone # ... I called and got an inspector on the phone who said that I should follow up with a phone call Fri night. They will send the complaint to the local fire dept. who will send the marshall over on Sat. night. Let's see where that goes. If it's as bad as it was last week ... and that's their regular deal, maybe this will disrupt them a bit.

Then I called the rest. to try to get the name of the manager or owner. Of course they wouldn't tell me the owner's name, but we can run the credit report and get it.

We're going to file a small claims suit for the makeup, hair, & cost of cleaning the clothes. We'll also contact the 'manager' tomorrow .... I do not think that he was in any way an owner of the place.

Keep the word out ... I'm glad if I could give anyone a heads up

Those boys from Midtown North rock, don't they? (That's where FH was working when I met him).
What an awful experience. I was considering going there for my bachelorette but no way in hell that's happening now! I'm so sorry and good luck with the small claims suit! Maybe you can go on Judge Judy!

I have never heard such an AWFUL story in all my life!!!! I hope you get that S.O.B.!!!! I'm just so glad you wound up having a great night anyway, and didn't let him ruin all of your fun!!!!! So sorry this happened to you - I'm truly shocked!

OMG - that is just horrible!!!
I was thinking - maybe you should file a complaint with the better business bureau AND call Zagat - maybe they can spread the word! Also, on citysearch.com - people who've eaten at restaurants, etc. can rate them and give in detail what they like/dislike about places - you should DEFINITELY write this on there.

My gosh how crazy!! what is it with these wierd restaurants and Bachelorette parties this weekend? I went to Puglias with my friends for her bachelorette party and they said they didnt have our reservations and all started yelling and screaming but there was no drink throwing, so happy you got to file a report, who do these people think they are?

wow, that ****s. i HATE when people dont have a clue how to run a business - nonetheless those that insist on ruining their business (at a customer's expense)!

I'm so sorry that happened to you. I'm so shocked, I don't know what to say. I've been there before, they weren't the nicest people, but nothing so extreme. I'll never go there again. Good luck with your lawsuit.

WOW What an a******!!!! People in this world are really disgusting! This thing called a man proved that!

Place a review on Zagat's and also http://newyork.citysearch.com/. Frommer's and Fodors are also good ones although I am not positive on posting reviews of restaurants.
I hope you had a blast afterwards.

I've been there so many times...I just wrote all of my friends and told them what happened... I know that my friends won't go there. Sorry that had to happen to you on the night of your bachelorette party. I'd fill out a complaint on citysearch.com. I used to go on there all of the time to check out restaurants, so they should lose a lot of business if you write something bad.

I am so sorry to hear what happened---but I'm glad that you did not let it ruin your special night!

I'm glad that you got the police involved and telling people not to go that restaurant also definetely helps. One suggestion that I have is to have friends and family call the restaurant and tell them that they will not eat at their restaurant because they have heard about the horrible service! If you just don't go anymore, the owner may not notice, but if he has people calling him everyday telling him that he has terrible service, then it may sink in.

My husband also suggested going to People's court or other Judge shows on TV!!
