I was talking to one of my bridesmaids yesterday about hair and makeup and she tells me that she's going this weekend to get dreadlocks put into her hair! I don't know anything about them, but isn't the only way they can come out is if you shave your head? I didn't tell her anything because I didn't want to be a biotch and say she can't but I can't imagine how dreadlocks will go well with formal wear.

Re: My Bridesmaid is getting Dreadlocks!
Yeah you kinda have to cut them out if they are real dreads.
If I were you I would express my concerns about how SHE might feel if in all the weddings pics she has dreadlocks.

I really don't know much about dreadlocks so I can't confirm the shaving of the head to take them out. I hope for her and your sake that is not the case!!!! Have you asked her how long she was planning on keeping them in? Good luck!!!!!

Should I really say anything to her? I just don't want to come off as a bridezilla. I knew I shouldn't have told them that I didn't care how they did their hair. I never expected THIS!

Honestly, I think they will look fine. One of my girlfriends had dreadlocks for her wedding and she looked fantastic. It wouldn't bother me in the least. Its your wedding, but you may be surprised about how good they look and how versatile they can be.

She's paying $500 for them, so I'm assuming a good while. And once the roots grow in she'll have to keep redoing it I'm assuming or else it'll look really bad

Ouch..... that's a tough situation.
I cannot imagine having to shave your head.... but who knows!
I might say something, casually. You don't want her to be pissed, but, you really don't want that in your wedding pics, either!
Any chance she's totally f*cking with you?

I'd be pissed just for the picture purposes... but, it's her life... If one of my BM's told me she was soing it, I wouldn't tell her she couldn't...

Re: My Bridesmaid is getting Dreadlocks!
is she getting real dreadlocks? sometimes ppl dont know what real ones are and instead they think its the style where you have tiny little braids...you know her best, is she more likely to have real dreadlocks or tiny braids.
And if shes your friend i dont see why you cant turn to her and say Uhmmm you do know that you might have to shave it off, i mean i would say that no matter what to a friend. To say you dont want it for your wedding is a whole different matter

I agree with saying something casually.
I know that I could confront my BM's about anything and they wouldn't care, it really depends on how your relationship is with her if its going to be seen as bridezilla-ish.
It is possibly to pull them back and style them a little.

It's definitely real dreads, not braids. I mentioned the whole head shaving thing, and she said she knew that and then I just kind of dropped it. I've been friends with her since 6th grade so I really don't want to say the wrong thing and upset her, I just wish she could have put it off. She's doing it now because she plans on getting married in two years and doesn't want it for her wedding, but it's ok for mine???

Hi!!!
I don't think you'll have anything to worry about. If she's paying $500 to put them in that means she's committed to keeping up with them and keeping them neat.
My fiance and all of his brothers have dreadlocks and they are very neat. My sister also has dreadlocks, she's my maid of honor.
If she keeps up with them you will have nothing to worry about. Dreadlocks are beautiful when they are cared for. They can also be styled very nicely for weddings and other formal affairs.

locks (not dreadlocks, some people are offended when you call it that) can be done very tasteful. It reallly depends on the type of hair a person has. Fine hair is really not meant to be locked, & often looks messy, but if you have a thicker grade of hair and your twists that start the locks are done properly then it will look fine.

Well now I'm confused...so she's putting in dreads for the next 2 years and then doing what with her hair for her wedding??
Are you sure that she doesn't mean that she's putting them in now so that they'll be long by the time she's getting married??
I doubt that she's putting them in now to shave them off in 2 years or less...double check with her...
BTW...you don't have to shave them off if you don't want to. My uncle had dreads and his 'loctician' combed them out when he didn't want them anymore. It's a long process but they can be combed out if they were put in and maintained properly.

I totally agree... hair texture makes a difference with how the locks will turn out.

hmmm i'm not sure how pleased i'd be with that. just for picture purposes ya know. but that's just me
my moh just informed me (haven't seen her in like 2 weeks) that she got her haircut in a strange style and put orange streaks all over it. she assured me it would be back to normal for my wedding.

ehh leave it alone. Looking back on it your pictures are gonna look better if you have your friends as they really are rather than looking like cookie cutter bridesmaids. when you're 90 looking back on your wedding you'll just laugh at how crazy and spur of the moment your friend was. I've seen a wedding where the BRIDE had dreads and was covered in tattoos and she was still a beautiful bride. It just adds a touch of personality.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend anyone, but she called them dreadlocks, so that's what I called them. She does have fine hair. She'll look like Gwyneth Paltrow, with locks. I just can't picture it.
