my brother had a bike accident
as in bicycle.... he was riding it to the gym from his apartment up in rochester. he was found unconscious and didn't wake up until he was in the ambulance. He didn't even know his own name. It was so scary!!
He is now awake and coherent. His scans came back ok and his spine and neck are ok. He can move and it appears he doesn't have any brain damage. However, he is a MESS..... a bunch of broken facial bones and covered in road rash... all the skin is off his arms and he had to get a bunch of sutures in his skull.
The situation is really sketchy. He rides his bike down that road everyday. It was freshly paved (we checked out the scene and there is not so much of a bump or dip). He says he remembers slowing down to cross the road, looking over his shoulder, seeing a car approaching, so he slowed way down to wait for it to pass. The next thing he remembers is waking up in the ambulance!!!
From all the information, it looks like he was HIT BY A CAR off of his bicycle...and it was a HIT AND RUN. I just got back from spending all night and day in the hospital. Thank god it wasn't worse (because it easily could have been). He is in a lot of pain but other than a few scars he shouldn't have any permanent damage. Keep him in your thoughts!
yesterday was the scariest day of my life.... the cop called my parents and said get up here now, he didn't think my brother was going to make it. We all flew up there because we thought he was gone. Thank god nothing more serious damage was done.
We are still trying to get more info out of the police. The whole thing is just so sketchy. The fact that there was NOTHING he could have hit, he is a very experienced rider, and how his wounds are (he has no traces of hints that he had tried to brace his fall) just points to that a car hit him.
