My car is sick....
Did anyone ever have the experience with your car, hesitating and then stalling a couple of times. Then the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT goes on.What the heck does that mean??
I'm bringing it to the shop later this morning.

Re: My car is sick....
It could be a number of things. What year is the car? Mileage?
It could be a clogged fuel filter, a bad sensor, dirty fuel injector.....

Re: My car is sick....
ah....I would have the mechanic check all the things I listed....Plus also check the airfilter for oil....and if the car has a pcv vavle...check to see if its dirty.

not that it is related directly to your 'check Engine' light, but have you had the timing belt replaced yet? if you are over 104,000 miles, then you are probably due.

It depends on your engine really. If it's a belt, the part will be probably just under $100. If it's a chain, it will be a bit more. In either case the labor to replace it is where you will run into money. I'm not sure what the going labor rate is, but it's usually somewhere in $60-80/hour range and most places I know will charge you 5+ hours of labor for a timing belt/chain.
While, it is a good idea to get this looked and eventually changed, if it is not the direct cause of your problem - this can wait.
More than likely, you will need a tune up (plugs, wires, idle check, etc.) and the Oxygen sensor replaced.

Re: My car is sick....
It shouldn't be too bad. $300 maybe. You could take to those places that advertise $90 tune-ups; but I rarely trust them.

I'm waiting now to hear something from the shop.I'm just thinking the worst!! I really like my car.
and I told my husband that if my car isn't ready by late tomorrow, I want to borrow his for the day, I'm off these days.

Re: My car is sick....
Ugh that O2 sensor can cost a bit if it is hard to get to. The one I had to replace in my ford cost $600, but it was due to 6 hours of labor to even get to the stupid thing

Re: My car is sick....
nah, you should be fine.If and when the time comes for you to change the timing belt/chain... for a slightly extra charge have them clean the throttle body too. This will help you down the road.
Good luck.

That's actually due to the vacuum seal on the tank. Some Hondas do that too. You almost have to bring a torque wrench with you to the gas station.
