My Cats getting fat!!

Ok, I love my little princess Chloe, but shes starting to get a big belly! She turned 9 in August and is very healthy but shes getting chunky and I am worried for her. Has anyone tried to put their cat on a diet?? She is an indoor cat so she doesn't get much exercise. Any ideas?

I know that my cousin's cats were put on a diet and lost weight. They use to leave dry food out and the cats ate whenever they wanted. They switched to wet food and feed them only once a day. They are house cats too.

We have a cat too. But our cat eats dry food and she's still in great shape because she is an outdoor cat and does get to exercise!

My sister has a fat cat!! He used to weigh 21 pounds They just moved to a house with stairs though so he is now a svelte 19.5

I guess the only thing to do is feed him a little less and get him some toys that he can chase after.

I had a 30 lb. cat--I recommend Iams Weight Loss program..it comes in the turquoise can and bag! My cat lost almost 7 pounds!

this is my dads cat (like the one on friends) hes hairless and supposed to be thin but he has a big belly.
i 'steal' him on weekends sometimes!
they put him on a diet too.
Iams has some great dry food. Ask your vet or local pet store.

Thanks for the advice! I think I am going to take her for a visit to the vet (hope she not reading this ) Heres a pic of her for christmas....and no I do not normally dress her up but someone gave me the costume and I couldnt refuse!!

I would definately talk to your vet. I think they would know what would be best.

Jenn, I love that cats blue eyes..but does he feel weird?? I've never seen a hairless cat.

applesfla-he feels like a peach. he is so soft, he is a sphynx cat.
no hair anywhere which is nice because FH is allergic to cats but not to him. Hardly any dander.
all they want 24/7 is to be rubbed non stop and held. they never want to be put down. i take him in the car & he loves it ! (from my house to dads).

hotelcallie - that is the most adorable picture!!! I bought my kitty a santa claus hat but she absolutely hates it. We always joke that we should buy her a tiara instead, since she's so incredibly spoiled.

My cat was 17 lbs, and through giving her dietary cat food, and less human food, she lost a few lbs - that's like 10-15 lbs to a person!

It is hard though - you can't get them to excerise if they don't want to!

The picture cracks me up!! TOOO FUNNY! I could never get my cat to sit still! Once I was making something and had some extra material so I made my cat a superman cap! He hated me! I could not resist putting it on him though! Even now I put it on when I need a quick attitude adjustment!

my cat ballooned from 10.5 # to 12.5 # (shes not long at all)

I tried Max Cat Lite...but the best thing I did for her was regulate her food intake (she personally likes 9Lives...so thats what I use)...I was strict to give her only 1/2 -3/4 cup a day...before she would gobble up the food...now at 11# she lets her food sit in her dish...
