MY church said NO!!!!

MY church said NO!!!!

So, I finally got through to the Father today...background is I went to this church ( it's episcopal) for about 10-12 years with mom and sister ( sundays, parties, holidays) and since we moevd have been there mainly on holidays and they were nto happy with that ( its a 45 minutes ride and I go to school on sundays)
ANYWAY< I call ( for the 5th time) today and talk to the Father and I give him our date and he says no, absoulutly not, it's during Lent...but I have been to weddings ( in catholic churchs) during lent? I started crying, I got so upset, the bm at the hall said he didnt think it would be a problem at all..now there is no way I can change my date...
Any brides been to or had a lent wedding and where??

I don't know the answer to your question...but, that's gotta be a mistake...no weddings during Lent? Hmmm...I'm sure someone here will know.

I've never heard that before, but is that a friday? that might be why, they have stations of the cross on wednesdays and fridays at my church..

ETS: When we first started planning we thought about a pre-easter wedding, and my priest advised us to wait until after easter because the church would be very bear during lent. Could that be why?

GASP!!!!! I'm SO sorry.
I really can't believe it! I have never heard of such a thing. Is your wedding on a Sunday? (I can't remember if you told me -sorry).-And not that it should matter.
Don't worry, you will definetly find someone to marry you- does your FH have a church you can contact?
It's just time for Plan B that's all...

I don't know why? He just said 'we don't do weddings during Lent' and I asked him twice so I would understand why specifically, but no answer to make me understand, I know its suppossed to be a somber time but I didnt think they'd say no.

I'm getting married the day after you(3/12/05) and my priest said that it's not a problem that it's during lent-just as long as it isn't on ash wednesday, holy thursday or good friday! I would look into this a little more with your church!

I can;t believe this, Im so upset now, I guess we can look into FH's church, but he has not been there in years but I LOVE my church and was so hurt by it, I didn't think it would be a no at aLL! We are getting married on a Friday, and everyone we talked to said it would be ok as long as it wasnt Good Friday?

My boss was married during Lent. (In fact, today's his anniversary.) The only problem they had was that they were not allowed to have flowers in church b/c it would have been 'too festive' or something like that. I think they had to decorate with branches and berries instead.

I hope it all works out for you!

is this a catholic church?
i looked online and found this on one catholic church website:
Weddings During Advent or Lent

Because these are seasons of the Church Year set aside for penitence and spiritual renewal, wedding celebrations are discouraged during these times. However, a wedding is allowed if it is in keeping with the character of the season. If you choose to have your wedding during Advent or Lent, the following restrictions apply at St. Thomas Aquinas Church:

No large wedding parties: Only the bride and groom along with a best man and a maid/matron of honor. No other attendants, flower girl or ring bearer.
No floral decorations or candelabra: Flowers may be carried and simple pew bows used.

its also listed on here hug:

The Episcopal Church can be very stricted with their ruls. I'm getting married in one, and I know they won't do weddings during Lent either.

Its early still..OH NO...what if they are having a wedding there the same night..ok, going to freak myself out, will wait till I talk to them...

It is very old school for a church to enforce it, but 30 years ago no one would have dared get married during Lent or Advent.

I went to a Lenten wedding last year and it was a on a Sunday!! You can find a church, don't worry!

I got married on good friday last year (the church would not do it, so we got married at our hall). You cant have a church wedding on easter weekend, any other time during lent should be fine.

I was at a wedding last ear during lent. there were 5 bm's and GM, and it was at regina pcis shrine, which is pretty conservative and wanted the girls to cover their shoulders (although they didn't in the end..) It can be done...

I am not postive but I think I have heard of the no weddings during lent before. I dont remember exactly but I dont think you have have a Christining during Lent either.

Again I am not positive on it. I would call the priest and ask what the reason is behind it. I dont know how the episicol (sp?) religion works but in the catholic religion you would go to the Dieoces to question things like this. I would go up the chain of commands (sort to speak) and not stop until you get an answer that you are happy with.

Good Luck and Dont stress about it. There are a million different ways to get married and everything will work out in your favor.. Dont forget everything happens for a reason..

we are getting married in a catholic church in 2 weeks and it is currently lent. we had to go w/ a ceremony and no mass.. but it was allowed. Also, if we bring flowers in or decorate in any way we have to take it with us when we leave.. that was it.. otherwise we haven't had any problems!!
