My DH and I just did the Saddest thing we ever had to do!!

I am so, so sorry. We went through the same thing with our dog a year and a half ago.

I am so sorry about your loss.....I totally understand how you feel, my family cat was put to sleep last year and it felt like losing a member of the family....it was sooooo diffuclt but the cat was suffering so great it looked like he was trying to tel lus he wanted to go, if that makes any kind of sense.........someone sent a poem to us and I thought it was beautiful and always think of my precious baby when I read it, hope it helps you .....I think it's beautiful...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I can only imagine what you are going through. My golden - abbie passed away quietly on March 18th right under the kitchen table. I was and am so devastated! She was my first ever pup! And she gave me 11 great years . . .
A close friend told me to be sure I grieved. The loss of a much loved pet is no different than loosing a human. It is okay to cry and it will happen for a while and when you least expect it.
On Saturday, I woke to the sound of her collar as she scratch an itch . . .And I cried. FM if you need to chat . . .

This is so true!! My baby reggie (my screen name ) had to be put tpo sleep last summer. He was the love of my life... my true love.Until I met my fh (then I had two true loves) It really is like losing a part of your family.

I know how hard it is to have to put a pet to sleep...we put my dog to sleep a few years ago...we had her for 11 years! I was devastated....Just know you did the right thing! at least she isn't suffering anymore

I'm so sorry. It's so hard, the loss of a pet. They really are like part of your family but you don't feel like you can really grieve since it wasn't a person. We had to put my 19 1/2 year old cat to sleep my junior year of college and I was devastated. I know how you feel.

I'm so sorry My cat died back in February after 11 years. He had leukemia and had been steadily getting worse since August. We took him to the vet constantly to check on his condition, but none of the medication seemed to help. He finally passed while he was sleeping one night. I know he's in a better place where he's healthy again. We also had him cremated and put in a really pretty pewter urn with his name, DOB, and DOD. I still have his sister and FI's cat, but I was constantly crying for 2 weeks because he really was the funniest, smartest cat I'd ever met. I still think about him at least once a day and, at some point, you do stop crying and you learn to be happy with the memories you had time to make.

I am so sorry for your loss , we too had to put our family kitty down last year, he was with us for 12 years. Reading your post, I felt your pain
