My dress fears came true... Now what?! (now with pic, thanks to somedaybride)
Original post by wenndypoo
I ordered my dress back in May (we are getting married 4/04). At the time, I was sure it was the one, had all those feelings people talk about, etc. I tried on about 50 dresses, and couldn't stop thinking about this one, went back 3 separate occasions to try it on, and just loved it. Since then I've had the occasional twinge of 'what if....?', but every one said when I try it on, I will fall in love with it again.
Well, I went today to try it on for the first time, and guess what? I wasn't crazy about it at all. I put it on and said, 'It's okay.' Then I just felt numb. I took it off and left. On the way home, I was like, what the he11 was I thinking when I ordered that dress?!?
I am at a loss. I feel stupid to say I'm devestated, but I'm close to it.
Has anyone heard of salons crediting the deposit towards another dress? Do you think I have a chance? I wanted to call and ask them, but I think if they told me no today, I would have fell apart.
Any advice?

You're welcome!! Here's a closeup of the bodice It's lovely, try and give it another shot, I think everyone gets dress anxiety. Maybe bring someone whose opinion you really value, this way you're not jumping into switching dresses without giving it a real shot. I am famous for working myself into a tizzy saying I hate something, I make myself nuts over it, switch it and a week later say, what did I hate about that? That's why I'm ordering my dress as late as possible. ETA: FMed you back :)

I do the same thing!!! Yeah, you're right, I will try it again. Looking at the pictures I took today, I can see it badly need to be altered, the top is way too big (I've lost a little weight). Maybe I'll go again and ask them to pin the back for me, and try it with the crinolin and stuff before I get crazy. This time I'll do my hair and put on some makeup so I don't look like a rag in an ill fitting dress

Your Dress is gorgeous! I got my dress FAR in advance and know that it is THE ONE- I won't even look in another magazine.
There is a reason why you chose your dress, and it is clearly gorgeous so don't worry!

You will be a Princess in that dress! I agree with the other ladies - definitely give it another chance! After all, you chose it for a reason! I've had many bouts of 'dress doubt' but then I remember all of the different dresses that I tried on, how I felt and looked in my dress, and the many reasons why I love and chose it! (Maybe bring a good friend or relative with you to get their opinion too.) Let us know what happens!

Wendypoo, first of all
I bought my dress about 7 1/2 months before my wedding. I felt good about it and loved that it was simple and made me look really good. I was also very, very comfortable in it. When I went in for my first fitting, I wasn't happy with the dress anymore. I felt it didn't do anything to me. But it did need some alterations and therefore it didn't fit right. But when I put it on the morning of my wedding, I felt like a princess. I got a lot of compliments - people basically said that it was the perfect dress for me.
It's so easy to second-guess everything when planning your wedding because it's a once-in-a-lifetime event and you want to make it as perfect as possible. But by second-guessing everything, the only thing you're doing is creating stress. You ordered this dress because there was something there at the time. It is a beautiful dress and maybe if you bring someone with you to try it on, or try it again when you're not as stressed (if that's possible), you may feel differently about it.

Re: My dress fears came true... Now what?!
Thanks again everyone for your advice and support I feel better about it today after reading your posts. Like some suggested, I made an appointment to see it again on Tuesday, this time I'm bringing all the 'stuff' (veil, tiara, undergarment, etc.), and I'll do my hair and makeup. If I'm still unhappy, I'll worry about it then!

You know, if you really don't like the dress, coudn't you just try to sell it to one of us on the board? Personally, that is what I would do. You might have to lose a couple hundred dollars(if someone bargains with you?), but that would be a lot better than the whole deposit !! Good Luck. Personally, I think that dress is amazing !!!
