my e-ring is too big! What to do?

my e-ring is too big! What to do?

So when FH proposed, he thought he got the right size, since he took one of my other rings with him when he bought it. I don't know what happened, but I needed a size 8 and the ring is a 9 1/4!

I went to a jeweler near my parents' house (they have been using him for years), and they told me that I should definitely get it resized since it has to go down a lot. He wouldn't do it though, he said that we should take it back to where we got it from and they would probably send it back to the vendor to resize it (since they will take gold out, the prongs could become loose). He gave me a ring guard which is working for now but I don't want to leave this on forever.

We are kind of hesitant to get it resized because I don't want to be without it for so long, AND my sister had to do the same thing and when the jeweler sent it out, they lost it! I don't want that to happen. ALso, my fingers are smaller now that it's winter and I know that they will be bigger in the summer and prob as I get older too, so should I keep it the way it is and use the ring guard and when I need to I can take it out?

Anyone experience this? Does anyone wear their ring with a ring guard??

TIA!

I would get it resized. My e-ring was more than a whole size too big when FH bought it. I dealt with a ring guard for a few months, but I got really annoyed by it. So I took it back to the jeweler where he bought it. I also got it resized in the winter, so they made it a 1/4 size bigger than what my finger was in the winter to account for summer swelling. Now it's perfect in the winter and the summer.

That's too big of a difference to just wear a ring guard. I'd get it sized. It might be better to go back to the jeweler and have them do it, but not wholly necessary. When I went to the jeweler they told me 2 weeks because it got sent out. I asked where it was sent to and they told me 'Fast Fix Jewelry' in the Queens Center Mall. I went there and they had it sized and shined within a half hour! I go to them for everything now! They do all the work right in front of you! Also, don't worry about the fact that your fingers are smaller now, a good jeweler will know to take that into account.

I'd get it resized ... just make sure that the company that resizes it has insurance in case it gets lost or whatnot.

your fingers won't be THAT much larger in the summertime

My FH did this too!!! I went to zales and then Macy's and tried on their ring sizes to be sure what my size was. FH had a friend take the ring in from where he purchased it with my size since we could not get out of work. They did it in a day and it now fits perfectly.

I'd get it re-sized also. You want to be comfortable and not worry whether your ring will fall off with the flick of the wrist. {btw your ring is so pretty!}

i went back to the store where i got my e-ring to get it resized. they send it back and you have it back in your hands in about a week. no worries. you will love it even more after you get it resized

My ring is also big but I didn't want to send it out either. I was paranoid they were going to replace my diamonds with fake ones. So I had them put these 2 small balls on the inside. I think it's so much better than the guard. The guard is so ugly and the balls you can barely see when you have it on. I was psycho and made sure I can go in the back to watch the guys do it. LOL Hey you never know people can be shady.

I found a jeweler that did it the same day but it cost a few bucks. But if he bought it at a certain size, you shouldn't pay anything to have it 'corrected' to the size he ordered.

I would get it resized I went to a place in Bayside and he did a great job I sat with him while he fixed it took under an hour!

I got the balls put in, You don't see or feel them and in the future you can take them out if needed (I plan on having babies and know my fingers will swell, and I want to wear my ring when that happens) It only took couple of minutes and I stayed there to make sure I could see my ring at all times. (I am not comfortable leaving my ring anywhere either). GL!

I'd get those ring balls
I keep saying I'm going to, but I never do... my ring is a size 7 and my finger is a 6¼. The balls are easier to remove if you need to make your ring 'bigger' later on...
once you make a ring smaller its harder to make it bigger if needed.
my mother reminded me of that when we talked about resizing... but what happens when/if you decide to get pregnant, your fingers will swell and it'd be a lot easier to take the balls out then resize your ring.
also, like you mentioned, in the winter your fingers 'shrink' and in the summer they 'swell'... so keep that in mind if you decide to resize.

if you do decide to resize contact elsa.... they let you watch EVERYTHING they do when they have your ring. in other words.. your ering never leaves your sight. its one of the things i like about them.

I had the same issue. The jewerler yelled at me for having the ring guards for so long. but resizing was the best thing I ever did.. i mean the FH paid insurance/ warranty for a reason right..?

thats a bid difference. i would have it resized to the correct size. i dont know what jeweler that you guys used but i dont know why it should take so long. and as for the stones coming loose it does happen but any jeweler would know to tighten them. i work in a jewelry store and you are more then welcome to come in i will help u!!! but the store u baught iot from might night charge u to resize it. FM me if u wanna come by.

as for the balls. thats to big of a difference. i have them and we only to them if it is like a 1/2 size difference. they would be hugh balls then!!!! and for sizing the ring larger if u ever need to is no problem at all!

Go to Jareds near the smithaven mall...I had to have my ering and wedding band soddered together, the wedding band needed to be resized and the jewelers there did it for me in 4 hours!!!! And it came out great...I swear by them!!!!

Thats way to much of a diffrence to get the balls. You should take back the ring to where FH bought it and have them size it. It takes less then a couple of hours.

I got my ring made smaller at Gennaro Jewelers in Bellmore. They were amazing. They did it right there in front of me! They made me watch them work on my ring. You don't need an appointment and they have a website for directions. You don't need to leave your ring, or be without it at all! Good luck!

I had my rings fixed at Gennaro too, they are great! I had my wedding band resized and my engagement ring head replaced (the center stone was getting loose so they made it more secure, added prongs) and they make a big deal of doing everything in front of you. I am not sure if they have to take the diamond out to resize the band... if they do, you will have to go on one of the days when their diamond guy is there (I wanna say Wednesday and Saturday but call to double check). Definitely recommend them!!

Re: my e-ring is too big! What to do?

My ring was also huge. FH got me a size 6 and I am a size 4-1/2. So I had to send it back to jeweler who made it to remake the ring. She had to melt it down and reconstruct the ring. When she did she made it a size 4-1/4, so now it is tight. So now I don't know what I am going to do about the summer.

Sorr had to rant a little. To answer your question, I had a permanent rung guard set in, it is hidden and does not move so it is less noticeable and bothers less. HTH!
