My Engagement Party Idea? Bad or Good

Ok Ladies so I have an idea for our engagement party but I'm not sure if it sounds kid-ish... We wanted to invite a bunch of people (approx 30) and I was thinking about having it at my house in August. We were thinking about calling it an 'Engagement Party Luau'. I figured we could make hawaiian style food ( ex: hawaiian chicken ect.), have eveyone dress in hawaiian clothes ( flip flops, shorts, lei's) and just be comfortable, and of course decorate it hawaiian.. Is this stupid?? Should I just do it at a restaurant??? Please help..

I think it depends on the couple...I've been to engagement partys in backyards and in restaurants. I saw pictures from a Hawaian inspired backyard party and it looked like a great time!! I really depends on how much you want to spend and what you want the party to be....I say have fun with it either way!

I love this idea! I don't think it is kiddish at all! I always wanted to have a luau themed party.

I think its a great idea! We had a backyard engagement party without a theme and it was SO fun...its can only get better with a luau!

I agree with everyone it sounds fun. It's really not that out of the box, I think the theme will please everyone unless people are being ridiculously uptight.

Excellent idea! We had ours in the back yard - an elegant BBQ theme. I love parties at houses as opposed to restaurants. At a restaurant it's a set time, people tend to sit at a table and that's it. At a house/backyard - people are up, mingling, staying as long as they want, and it's just so much fun!

Just MAKE SURE you take weather into account. I almost had a hurricane ruin my Eparty! RENT A TENT!!!!!!!!! And a port-a-potty too.

Absolutely not stupid or kiddish at all! We originally would have loved to something like that but we didn't want to wait so long for the weather to warm up! But i think its a great idea!
