Please brace yourselves ladies I am shocked that this came out of his mouth.
He wants to put on our invitations:
'In Lieu of gifts me and him (insert names)would gladly appreciate a contribution to their house fund'
He is so serious that is the scary part. I politely told him that this is the most inappropriate thing I have ever heard of.
His response: Everbody's wedding is different and everyone does different things. I said yes, everyone's wedding is different but there is a code of ethics which everyone should follow.
I am shocked beyond belief.

Re: My FH has no class
oohh i would not put that on an invitation. Have it spread by word of mouth that you want money and not gifts.
you shouldn't tell people, but have family members tell people..

Oh I am definetely NOT.
I am just utterly shocked that he would suggest such a thing. I think he is listening some of his tacky friends who have done this.

not a good idea, most weddings you recieve money you dont need to tell people what to give.
tell sweetie to leave it up to you.

I am so not laughing. He really thinks there is nothing wrong with this and had the nerve to get p*i*s*s*ed at me because I called him on it.
OMG, I am marrying a philistine. I thought I trained him so well.

Re: My FH has no class
That sounds like someone I know recently who was upset b/c she wanted an engagement party to make money to pay for the wedding and was told NO by her FH and her mother who were shocked that she suggested the idea. They told her OK on the party NO to the fundraiser.

Some People!!!!
It IS a challenge to pay for this wedding and try to purchase a home and I am up for it, but I would NEVER tell people that they should give me $$$.
I know I am acting a bit crazed, but I pride myself on being tactful, having a sense of decorum, and exuding class, he is not exhibiting any of these qualities, I hope he has not started telling this to people.

Re: My FH has no class
Not everybody gives money. I have actually been to weddings where people showed up with gifts. One girl I knew actually received an unwraped blender from a crazy aunt. Can you imagine a blender box sitting on a table during your reception?
Oy Vey!

Re: My FH has no class
Taralisa you are right, not everyone gives $$$.
Some of our friends may not give us $$$$. I am already prepared for that. It does not really matter to me. I think that is what he is afraid of.
However people do not like to be told what to do and would be offended by such a request.

Are you sure he's not just messing with you? How can he be real about this? Try giving him a smack upside his head, that ought to straigten him out.

Re: My FH has no class
My friend went to a wedding and they ask in the invite to make the check to some account for their house fund. There are companies that do this.
Just tell him no, its tacky and thats it. Tell him if hes so worried to get a second job, j/k

Re: My FH has no class
You can't even blame him, I have seen that statement or some variation of it on a quite a few wedding invitations.
Some people just don't know that this so so tacky.
