My FMIL had a seizure.

My FMIL had a seizure.

3, actually.

Today, yesterday, and now, in hindsight, she realizes that when she blacked out last month (she thought it was a migraine), it was actually another seizure.

She does not have any history of seizures, and the neurologists are doing a battery of tests to hopefully figure out why this is happening all of a sudden. She is not on any new medication (only a blood pressure pill that she's been on for at least a year)...nothing has changed in her diet or lifestyle.....its just strange.

Last month she went to the Dr. because she was losing her hair in circular patterns all over her head and was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata. (hair loss disorder- hair falls out VERY quickly, and in clumps - can be stress related.)

Now all of the Drs are wondering if the seizures and alopecia and sleeping problems she's been having are all signs of a bigger problem....

Neuro tests, blood tests, and MRIs are all to follow....

FH is taking things a little strangely....I wonder if he's scared, or if he just doesn't want to worry until there's a diagnosis, or I don't know.... Its just one of those days where I wish I could cheer him up, but its not working!

If you have a minute, please just send some good thoughts for a quick diagnosis and recovery.

Thank you!

Just give FH some time, he will come around. Its probably hard for him to take this all in right now. My prayers go out to ur FMIL..

aw Nic I am so sorry, I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers that this is nothing major and something that can be fixed. Keep strong for FH, he probably has no idea how to deal with this. Its is mom and it probably scares the cr@p out of him but he doesnt want to get sooo upset that it worries her and you.

Re: My FMIL had a seizure.

Right before Thanksgiving my 33 year old sister had 3 seizures within 2 days. She ended up in 2 different hospitals in Boston, and when all was said and done, the doctors found that she had two blood clots in her brain!! Luckily, they did over 3 MRI's with contrast, to discover that she did not have a mass in her brain! They were an hour away from doing a brain biposy- which would've killed her! They feel that they were caused by her long term use of birth control pills, coupled with her anemia and low iron. The clots have since dissapated dramatically, and she is now with her boyfriend in Thailand on a month long vacation. Another lucky part of this is that the clots were situated in parts of the brain where oxygen coming into the brain was no hindered!

So my point to tell you this story is to relay the fact that you should hold firmly onto hope for your FMIL! My whole family spent Thanksgiving dinner at the hospital cafeteria, happily munching away on our turkey, knowing that we were blessed that my lovely sister did not have a worse condition! I am sending you lots of hugs, positive thoughts and the best of wishes for your FMIL and the rest of the family! She will get thru this! Have faith, and always get a second and third opinion!!

Yes, it was friggin scary... just like it is scary for you, FH and the family right now!! It may be a long road, but they will find the reason for what is going on. Sending you lots of ...

Re: My FMIL had a seizure.

also, many people experiencing sudden seizure episodes NEVER find out what the cause was. Usually stress is the trigger, but seldom is it the underlying cause.

I hope she is ok.....

I would just give him some time to process everything-I can't even imagine what he must be feeling.

The only thing you could do is be there for him. When he is ready, he will talk or just need a hug.

I'm Soo sorry Men sometimes react very differently then us women!! He's probably a little bit in shock and is trying to stay calm. DOn't be upset if you can't cheer him up. The best thing you can do is keep reminding him that you are there for him, he will know and when he is ready he will come to you for comfort. YOur family is in my prayers
