My FMIL had a seizure.

Original post by Shorty McBride

3, actually.

Today, yesterday, and now, in hindsight, she realizes that when she blacked out last month (she thought it was a migraine), it was actually another seizure.

She does not have any history of seizures, and the neurologists are doing a battery of tests to hopefully figure out why this is happening all of a sudden. She is not on any new medication (only a blood pressure pill that she's been on for at least a year)...nothing has changed in her diet or lifestyle.....its just strange.

Last month she went to the Dr. because she was losing her hair in circular patterns all over her head and was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata. (hair loss disorder- hair falls out VERY quickly, and in clumps - can be stress related.)

Now all of the Drs are wondering if the seizures and alopecia and sleeping problems she's been having are all signs of a bigger problem....

Neuro tests, blood tests, and MRIs are all to follow....

FH is taking things a little strangely....I wonder if he's scared, or if he just doesn't want to worry until there's a diagnosis, or I don't know.... Its just one of those days where I wish I could cheer him up, but its not working!

If you have a minute, please just send some good thoughts for a quick diagnosis and recovery.

Thank you!

I have alopecia areata. Last year I passed out a few times, but they couldn't find anything after all of my tests. I never even thought that maybe the aopecia could be linked to the passing out. Ill keep you and your family in my prayers.

That's very scary. I hope your FMiL will be OK.

Having just gone through this with my FH (his mom was diagnosed with breast cancer last summer and passed away on Thanksgiving)--don't try to cheer him up. He doesn't want to be 'cheered.' Just show that you're there for him, and that he can talk if he wants, or if he wants to do something to get his mind off it, you're there for him also. And show your FMiL that you care too. She will really appreciate it.

OMG Nicole, this is the first that I am hearing of this!! Please call me if you need to talk or need ANYTHING. I’m so sorry and I hope and pray that everything will be OK and that she will be back to normal really soon. I just hope it isn’t anything serious- I mean, I don’t know what in the world could be causing all of those problems… It’s so upsetting!!! I’m so sorry for Rich- I think he is probably, like you stated, scared as I would be too. Of course, she is in our thoughts and prayers and Vinny and I hope that this turns out to be something minor and easily treatable. I’m here if you need me!!

Re: My FMIL had a seizure.

Thank you so much ladies

She's on her way to another Dr. this morning.

I'd like to bring her something later, but I'm not sure what. She hates flowers and candles, she can't eat candy...I'll figure something out.

Thanks again - I really appreciate ALL of the good thoughts.
