My Friend Bought the SAME DRESS as me

Original post by Brat23

I am extremely upset. I was hysterical for hours. My Mom, Dad, and FH all say don't worry because IM prettier blah blah blah but they have to say those things. MY MOH and BP is furious with her and I just don't know what to feel anymore.

I feel like a wedding dress isn't just a dress! I feel like it is sacred and a reflection of who I am as a person. Unique different. IM sad girls IM thinking about RUSH ordering a new dress but then I will loose the $1,200 I already paid

HELP

Re: My Friend Bought the SAME DRESS as me

Who in their right mind would do that??? I can't even understand why she would want to wear the same dress after you wore it. There are so many dresses that she could have gotten that would have been similar to that one.
For your sake...I REALLY hope you didn't choose her to be in the bridal party. I would kick her @ss so far to the curb!!!

I actually think it's quite humorous. I would have been like, 'You realize you're going to look like a complete @ss wearing the same dress that I wore?' 'You realize that people are going to be talking about it all night...that you wore the same dress as me?' 'You realize that I look better in the dress, right?' (JK!!!) Then, she'll say, 'Yea, I realize it, but i dont care.' And then you can smile, chuckle outloud, and say, 'Okay...as long as you realize it! Just wanted to save you the EMBARASSMENT!!!!' ha ha ha ha ha

Re: My Friend Bought the SAME DRESS as me

Thanks Girls for all of your insight.

I can't quote everyone so i will try to answer every question.

I know chances are no one will remember but I will and that is that part that bothers me. NOT to mention her FH will see her dress at my wedding so dumb. ANd my FH will see her looking all ugly in my gown.

This is going to sound weird and probably not make sense to alot of you but.....

I feel like I have dreamed of this day all my life. I have known exactly what kind of dress I wanted. It took me MONTHS to find my gown.

When I tell you blood, sweat and tears literally went into finding this gown. My handicapped Mother my 2 sons, my 2 nieces my SIL 2B and MOH all traveled tjhrough rain, sleet, snow etc day in and day out for months. We even got food poisoning once from eating at a strange place while dress shopping.

I FINALLY after MONTHS found the dress of my dreams. YES I did make some changes to the gown on top but the BOTTOM is EXACTLY the same.

I feel that the dress is a reflection of who I am as a person. And by wearing the same gown your taking something away from me.

If the shoe was on the other foot I would have canceled my dress and got a new one. I WOULD NEVER wear the same dress as a close friend.

1. Because she is wearing it
2. That dress is no longer unique for me I would need my own dress.

When said friend and I started talking about our weddings I printed a picture of my gown from a random website and showed it too her. I also had given her all of the photos of the gowns I was considering. She asked if I no longer needed them can she have them. I kindly gave them to her and showed her the one I would have gotten had I not found mine. SHe loved the dress but hated the train. She was very specific that she wanted a DETACHABLE train b/c she hated trains. I told her I hated my train but then fell in love with it.

The website was selling a SAMPLE of my gown in Ivory size 12. It said all this information on the print out including the price of $725

Fast Forward 3 weeks later at my nieces Bday we are all sitting around and chatting and she announces that she bought her dress. WHen she reveals the style and number I start laughing and tell her to tell the truth the jokes over.

She said she wasn't kidding and that she purchased it online and didn't know where.

So I said from blha.com and she said how do you know? I said was it Size 12 in Ivory for $725.00 she says Yes.

I said that is the website I showed you she says I don't remember.

She said I fell in love with the train. I sad the train you wouldn't even look at pictures I had of gowns with trains on them b/c you did NOT want a train. And my train weighs 9 pounds.

She claims she went to her FIRST wedding dress shop and the man randomly pulled my gown out.

We argued over it and I said when you found the gown you should have extended me a curteousy call and said hey what is dress so we don't get the same one. She didn't feel that was nessacary.

I have 2 cousins and a friend all getting married within a year and I checked with them all FIRST.

The dress is popular I suppose. Its a Jasmine Couture and I have seen 2 brides online with it. I have only seen it in 2 Bridal stores though.

I know I have the upper hand but I still feel betrayed.

Soory so long Thanks for everything girls!

i understand why you feel betrayed, it is kind of weird, and it doesnt make sense - that dress is special to you, its 'yours' and i totally get that.....dont let it ruin anything for you though

The whole situation seems weird to me- the fact that she feels she has to LIE about where she found the dress.

At least your wedding is BEFORE her's. Everyone will just assume she copied you.

And imitation is supposed to be the sincerist form of flattery, right? So I guess she thinks your style rocks.

I wouldnt stress since your wedding is first. She should be the one to feel dumb since shes after yours. Its true like some brides on here have said, sometimes guests dont even remember, Unfortunately the brides do. If I was you, I wouldnt buy another dress especially since your first. She shouldbe the one freaking out

I know I think in time I will be over it but right now between the lying and the sneaking around..... Its just to much.

I am glad I had you girls to talk too.

I know I should be flattered but I just wish she had copied my Nike's Instead

hey ..as long as your wedding is first I wouldn't care about it.... No one will be impressed with the dress the second time around and everyone will be whispering about how you just wore in 12 weeks ago....everyone will think shes an a$$!!!

I understand that you're upset BUT I don't want you to lose sight that this is your perfect wedding gown. Regardless of who else has it (as sh!tty as it may be) it is your dream dress and don't let her take any joy out of wearing it.

Good luck!
Thanks! I love friends!

you said you changed the top of the dress a bit, so thats real good then. The bottom you shouldn't worry about too much bc half of wedding dresses look the same on the bottom, so i think the top of your dress being different will throw people off.

The actual sillohette is different but the beeding is all the same still.

I also have the upper hand that my gown is NEW and it is WHITE

oh ok, so there are differences then. Dont worry then bc any slight difference ppl will think its a completely different dress. Since SO many wedding dresses are similar to many other styles nobody will know. DOnt let it bring you down

i didnt even think of that, well i had ivory and i loved it and infact if they didnt tell me it was ivory i would've thought it was white. Looked fine to me, plus a majority of girls on here get ivory so must not be that bad lol

I got Ivory bc personally when I put on white I looked washed out...My SIL is Jamaican and her dress was white and looked GORGEOUS against her skin.

The color dress you pick is based on your skin tone !

exactly! when i first when dress shopping i asked for white. The lady asked me to reconsider and brought out a white dress and an ivory dress and i have to say i was surprised it was ivory bc i expected it to look different. But yeah the ivory looked alot better on me. The designer i used, the white they have is TOO stark white and ivory was more of what i pictured as white lol

me too..guess it depends on the dress itself..and your skin tone one might look good in white another in ivory lol

ya know, i never even asked what would look better on me.... the consultant told me that the dress looked much better in ivory (its a darker ivory) so thats what i went for! ... technically, im sure theres barely anyone here that can wear white for what it was traditionally a symbol for...
