That's really messed up. I mean, it's the meaning behind the ring. But to pass off a fake as a real is just wrong.

Oh now, he should of at least told her it was a CZ and not let her go get it appraised. He shoudl of gotten a small diamond if he didnt have money.

Re: My friend got a 'fake' ring!
i totally understand what you girls are saying about CZ not being 'fake' but just a different type of ring and an e-ring doesnt have to be a diamond.
but that is NOT the point - the point is he presented it to her as a DIAMOND. he let it get to the point that she was getting it APPRAISED and still didnt say anything.
we can debate all day about the meaning of a diamond, or a ring, or what an engagement really means etc. but in the end. . . he lied to her and basically let her embarass herself in front of other people. . THAT is what she should be mad at.. . . .i mean, i wouldnt call of the wedding or anything but i would be really betrayed!

you said it perfectly tilde...an e-ring doesn't have to be a diamond, now people get different things...a girl at my job has a sapphire and its what she requested and it wasn't about money bc they have money it was just her preference...but besides all that its just like you said, its the fact that he was passing it off to her as if it were a diamond, and deceiving her...if he felt like that about spending money on a ring then its something he should've been upfront about...if someone would like to me about something like that then i would wonder what else they would lie to me about and keep from me

personally i dont understand why girls run off right away to get it appraised, its like they do it brag 'MY ring is balh blah blah carats, look at me...yadda....' but thats what our society has become
FH made sure he had mine apprised before he gave it to me so he could insure it (not so he could report the carat weight to me. He knew I wouldn't wear it unless it was insured b/c we sure as he!! could not afford to replace it if it was lost.
Please, if I ever heard a girl say 'look- I'm engaged and its 'X' carats', in the same sentence I would probably slap her--lol

I agree with the others who said that 1) an enagement ring doesn't have to be a diamond, 2) perhaps your friend should have had more realistic expectations of what to get for an engagement ring, and 3) he shouldn't have lied.
You summed it up perfectly! I agree on all 3 points.

Re: My friend got a 'fake' ring!
you can tell her to go to yehuda.com. they are real diamands but they are enhanced with a special lazor. much much cheaper but still really great. you would never know. she will most likely be able to find something on that website, they have all sizes.

I totally agree!! someone i know has a sapphire also and she couldn't be happier..my mother got a very small marquise cut and unfortunately it was taken when they were robbed..but they have been married for 27 years and very happY! an e-ring has nothing to do with how good someones marriage will be..

I appraised my ring right away, but FH insisted. Its a big investment and god forbid something happens to it (lost/stole) it can be replaced.
I dont think many people have them appraised so that they can brag about how many carats it is.

Re: My friend got a 'fake' ring!
your friend may be interested to know that there are several ring designers, including Tacori, where the ring is outrageously expensive, but the center stone is a CZ. You can purchase a separate diamond to include, but the $6,000 ring will come with a CZ.
Then again, I dont have a ring, and am telling my FH to go ahead and get me a CZ until we can afford one, and he is embarrassed because he cant afford one.

well i'm glad they arent breaking up. still ***** that the dude HAS to get her a specific ring by a certain time though. and she should have kept the original ring even if it's just to wear for now.
