everyones talking about her embarassment, but maybe he was really embarassed and didnt figure she was the type to run off and get it appraised so he felt no need to tell her to break her spirit... maybe he planned on telling her if it ever came up that she wanted to go get it appraised yadda.... i dunno, but maybe its not meant to be, she thinks hes cheap and he with held something from her.... sounds like they both have 'issues'

Thats crazy ...why is she telling you LOL.... Im sure FH didnt want her to go around saying my ring is fake LMFAO.
exactly! now the guy looks like a jerk. when he just didnt want to wait any longer. I told my fiance to get me a ring at walmart on the spinning thing they have for $8.88 and i wouldnt tell anyone! lol he said no but still...
it's only embarassing or upsetting when someone finds out it's fake. i totally woulda gotten upset with him for not being honest but i wouldnt have made it worse by telling people.
now i feel bad for the guy!
Yea !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I totally understand her being upset. IMO the love is what counts the most however, getting a nice ring really shows how much you mean to him. Anyone can say 'oh i love you and want to marry you' but, when he goes out and spends thousands on a ring... you know he really means it. (unless of course he is a millionaire and doesn't care about $) lol
I can understand if he told her first and promised her a real diamond when he could afford it but, to buy a fake ring and let her believe its real... thats just wrong.

my FH didn't spend thousands on my ring but i dont think that means he doesnt really mean it.... I think he knows that I'm not superficial and would rather spend extra money on lil trips and eating out and such... to each their own i say

agree to disagree my mom and dad have been married for over 30 years and she has no ring doesnt mean anything...
a ring means nothing....its just a promise to marry; to show that the lady will be married soon

i have to comment, i peaked at your ring, regardless of how expensive your ring is i really love it, especially as an e-ring. i would have loved a diamond and sapphire band for an e-ring, i am actually making him get me one anyways, lol.

Re: My friend got a 'fake' ring!
I think a ring means a lot because I have had 3 of my ex-bfs say 'i want to marry you' but, they never got me a ring. There was no reason for them not to get me a ring (all of them had $) but, they didn't buy the ring because they didn't really want to marry me. If they didn't have the $ and we talked about it... that would be different.

Re: My friend got a 'fake' ring!
OHH i feel really bad for her that she found out this way...he should tell her right from the beginning that its not real, i know that he wanted to make her happy but, being honest in the relationship is very important even about such a small things like this...but she should react this way, but in a way its understendable because she felt betrayed, and she wants to put her anger on him, even thou she might not care in its real or not. She showed it to everyone, and now she feels like she lied to the people about the ring so she needs to get back on the guy.... The ring is not important, its important the love between them. Ring is just a ring, just a symbol, more iportant is the commintment that the both will make. Instead of gettinga real ring now, she might get wedding bands ith diamonds around.

Re: My friend got a 'fake' ring!
I think she is being so superficial....getting engaged is not about the ring. its about the commitment that it represents.
obviously, this ring is very important to her - but if she loved it before, then she should love it now.
besides, isnt it more important that he has asked her to spend the rest of their lives together?

Re: My friend got a 'fake' ring!
My FH couldnt afford expensive ring either, but in my family ring with diamons is not important, there is no tradition like in here, basicly ring with any kind of stone is good, it is just a symbol for engagement. I think it was like that long time ago, butif you had bigger stone it ment that your husband is rich and he will take good care of you.... i heard that somewhere...

I agree with you....it is important that he wants to be with her not what kind of ring she got....

Re: My friend got a 'fake' ring!
ok.. I would be pissed.. like on a serious level.
I would be really mad that he didn't tell me.. if he did I would be more understanding.. but actually.. I wouldn't want a fake ring.
I would rather have no ring.. than a fake ring..
I would rather put that $$ towards the wedding.. or a place to live or something..
It's definitely the thought and the sentiment that counts.. and I don't know the guy in this particular situation at all.. but I just know I wouldn't want a fake ring... I would feel kinda embarrassed of it.
If that makes me materialistic.. then.. I guess I am.. I mean I never thought I was.. but I can understand her being so mad and hurt.
*edited to say..
FH and I went to get the ring appraised right away.. the diamond was bought seperately and was appraised 1st at the jewelry judge and then the ring as a whole was taken to him for a final appraisal... I really wanted insurance on it.. and FH would have never let me wear it if it wasn't covered.. so I don't think this makes her a bad person.

Re: My friend got a 'fake' ring!
I think people put way too much importance on the ring, a ring whether it's fake or not is just a SYMBOL of your love for each other and that you're getting married, that's it! It's only there to let others know of your intentions, I don't know why people have to put such huge attachments to a piece of metal...

Re: My friend got a 'fake' ring!
Man, that situation makes me sad cause he obviously loves her and wants to marry and its so sad society makes it so that you dont have status if your wedding ring isnt big enough, shiny enough, or real enough. I dont know how many times guys have tried to come on to me by saying, 'Thats your ring? I would have given you bigger'. One of my moms co-workers even said it was small in front of my fiance. Like thats what I measure our love by. When my FH got me my e-ring, if he would have told me how much he was spending (which wasnt a lot but Im a crazy money saver), i would have mentioned getting me a cubic until we had anough to splurge. He must feel awful and embarassed and I guess I would feel that way too cause he should have told her how much he wanted to marry her and then mentioned how his financial status wont allow him to buy her the ring of her dreams. Im sure she would have understood. I hope everything works out with the two of them

Re: My friend got a 'fake' ring!
I'm the type of person who believes more in what FH and I have and our life together than a ring or a wedding. i really just want to get married to the man I love, its not about the ring.
that being said, i WOULD be mad if i found out that it was fake (and he didnt tell me). Guys are stupid and yes maybe he didnt think it was a big deal, but to a woman who is getting engaged it matters. Not the size of the stone or how much it costs but what that ring represents. I always told FH that giving me the ring was a sign that he was ready to commit and it is where we begin to really plan our lives together. But to get something fake (AND NOT BEING AWARE OF IT UPFRONT and THE REASONING), is to me degrading in a way. For a very small amount of money he could have bought her just a band or a promise ring, or a very small carat diamond. ANd YES he could have bought a FAKE one too.. but she should have been told.
If they discussed marriage prior then he should have told her this (stateing financial reasons or etc)
the fact that he wasnt upfront about it and didnt have a discussion with her about this.. was wrong!! For me if FH needed to give me a fake ring, i would have been okay with it, if it was something we discussed (money can be an issue and rings cost A LOT) but i think its only right to tell the person.
