wow thats nuts... but like other girls said before me, if he cant afford a real ring, then i would be happy with that... a little sad, but still happy that he wants so bad to make me happy!

Re: My friend got a 'fake' ring!
Hmmm... that's a rough situation. I think in this situation he should have been more upfront even if he couldn't afford a ring or just didn't want to spend the money on a diamond.
I think she needs to relax and chill. I would be upset but I hope I wouldn't be hysterical.
Did she say yes to the pretty ring? or to his proposal?

personally i dont understand why girls run off right away to get it appraised, its like they do it brag 'MY ring is balh blah blah carats, look at me...yadda....' but thats what our society has become
i have to disagree with you here - i got my ring appraised so i could get insurance on it - FH did not want me to wear it even one day without insurance.
i didnt even want to look at the forms but FH was really proud that he learned a lot about diamonds so he made me look at them - but then i had to get all the information anyway to tell teh insurance company
that is the only reason i got it appraised
I understand this, not everyone does it for gloating, but sadly ive seen more of the latter....
that IS sad - you are right!

i would be upset too, but only because he didn't tell her - i don't think i'd be upset if he was up front and said that he would get her a real diamond when he could afford it...
that being said, if he 'didn't see the point' in spending so much for the real thing... i might have a problem with that. it's not about having the diamond, although that's nice... it almost seems like he's saying she'e not worth the $. i would rather have a gorgeous, inexpensive, non-diamond, meaningful ring than a CZ because i'm 'not worth' the real thing.

Re: My friend got a 'fake' ring!
i feel bad that she looked like a fool at the appraiser, and i feel bad if she's been showing off the ring. BUT no one else needs to know it's fake.
i hope the issue here is trust and not material.

Re: My friend got a 'fake' ring!
i didn't read all the responses so this probably has been said already.
Well first off he should've been honest with her about the ring, if that is how he felt about it and thinks he is right then there is no reason to lie about it.
so i would be mad about the dishonesty but to get mad and want to call off the wedding is a bit much. Especially since you say he is the nicest guy and he treats her well, thats alot hard to come across than a real diamond and something to hold onto. A diamond is not what is gonna make their marriage a great one and live happily.
Would she consider getting a different stoned ring, i see alot of girls with diff stones instead of a diamond

that sux. i think he probably should have been real with her in the beginning and said 'i love you, and i don't have the $$ for a real one, but in the meantime i wanted to give you something in place of a diamond' since he gave it to her and said nothing and she found out it was a fake---i can see her being upset..BUT
that being said--i think she's overreacting about the e-ring and she sounds a little bit spoiled. she's gotta wake up and realize that at least he tried to do something nice, and doesn't want to go into debt to get her a rock. i hope this isn't a preview of her as a bride wanting everything for a wedding even if they can't afford it!
I agree, I wouldn't be mad if he told me at the begining that he can't afford to buy a real diamond, but I would be mad if I have to find out from other people

Yup, I have yet to get my ring appraised! People were urging me to do it though just to make sure it was worth what FH paid for it...I guess that's why most girls do it..

Re: My friend got a 'fake' ring!
Def shoula been honest about it. At least he shoulda discussed the issue with her to find out her thoughts on the matter too... Find out what she would want that is less expensive to please both of them!
My FH's best friend said FH should have given me a ring with a CZ diamond in it and presented it along with 5,000 cash & tell me 'You can either leave the ring the way it is with the fake diamond and take the cash and put it towards something OR use the money to buy a real ring' When I think back on this, I think I still would have wanted the real ring... And I am like the most non-materialistic person you can meet! I still dont think he shoulda spent the amount of $$ he did on the ring (I expected a lot less ans would have been completely happy) But there is just something about the e-ring and toknow that its fake would def hurt me inside

Since my FH has no clue about diamonds at all i'm a little worried that he might have gotten taken advantage of. I don't care how much the ring is worth but i'm worried if i get it appraised it wont be worth what he paid. And i know he'd be devastated. Is there anything you can do if it appraises for less??

OMG that is horrible, I feel so bad for her , did she send her ring away to get it sized or something, bec I heard horror stories where they switch rings to fake ones.

well, she like every other girl in the world would have, assumed it was a diamond engagement ring, he's dead wrong for not telling her off the bat that it wasn't *shaking head*...still, i don't think that should be the determinent factor on whether or not you will to spend the rest of your life with someone.

I think alot of it probably does have something to do with her feeling embarrassed once she went to get it appraised. As one who does not handle embarrassment well AT ALL I know I would've been peeved.
However...He should have gave her a heads up and explained that he really wanted to marry her but couldn't afford the ring right now. Obviously she knows his financial situation so she should understand.

Yes, he should have told her at the beginning, but she is acting very spoiled. It doesn't matter what kind of diamond the ring has. If she wanted a real diamond, then maybe she should have paid for it herself. Sorry, just makes me mad when some girls expect these expensive rings .... thinking that the real diamond shows how much they are loved. Why does it matter if the ring is real or not? Seriously.......why?

I completely agree with that because she made a comment about him not thinking she's worth a diamond ring!

hmmm tough one. I would be upset if he hadn't told me. if he had explained it then I would not be upset. True she can wear the fake one now and maybe get a new one later when they can afford it. Boys just dont get it sometimes.

exactly! now the guy looks like a jerk. when he just didnt want to wait any longer. I told my fiance to get me a ring at walmart on the spinning thing they have for $8.88 and i wouldnt tell anyone! lol he said no but still...
it's only embarassing or upsetting when someone finds out it's fake. i totally woulda gotten upset with him for not being honest but i wouldnt have made it worse by telling people.
