Okay, I got yelled at by my mom that the guest list was too long, and that I needed to get rid of some.
So, begrudingly, I did. I went from 63 guests to 40. Not a huge chunck, but i really don't see how I can remove anyone else.
But now, my parents, and Kev's parents keep adding more guests so our list is now above what it was before I trimmed.
Ugh!
what kills me is i'm being told to remove people that I know for random family members and friends of the family that kevin and i either
barely know or don't know at all.
I know it's 'etiquette' and all but it's just really frustrating...
Current list total: 217... and we still don't have entire lists from my mom or his mom.
I was hoping to invite no more than 185 so that about 150 would show... But it seems the only ones who have to cut their lists is me and Kev..
At this point i'll know about 15 people at my wedding

But, seriously everything you posted makes complete sense. I dread the day we really have to do the guest list, but I'm gonna be as tough as I can and take everything you said into consideration.

You really do have to toughen up...at first everyone had guests, everyone was invited yada yada yada...
Now that it's coming closer, and we're buying a co-op and all these expenses are coming up we just had to put our foot down. If we invite 170 is 170 going to show? No...but we want to have around 150, so if 130 show it'll be the sort of wedding we wanted.
All that matters to us anyways are the people we WANT to be there not feel like we have to invite. In the grand scheme of things, most of the people you don't really want to invite probably don't care if they're invited.

And it just got bigger - talked to mom and now we're up to 230
My cousin's husband passed away It's sad... but they're family i don't really know... but now she feels bad and wants to invite their kids... and then we have to invite all the other cousins kids...
I give up - if they want to invite all these people - they're paying for them.
Heck, more gifts for me, right?

That's a hard one. I have a lot of single friends.
Our list is at 153 (was 147). People pop out of the woodwork. LOL
I wanted 75 - 115 max but did budget for 150 just in case.

My list keeps growing too. I thought is was going to be around 130 and we are up to 190. I can't believe it! We are definitely going to try to cut people but it's hard.

i know it's hard but if it's within your budget and you want it that way, that's fine. The thing with guests is my single friends would be bringing people we don't know, or people we didn't invite cause we didn't want there (friends of friends) so we decided just to eliminate them totally. most of my friends are in a relationship so that wasn't a hard decision to make.

If it's within your budget and you have a lot I'd say go for it! For us, it was not in our budget, we were way over our guest#, and most of our friends do have serious relationships. We also wanted to eliminate people we didn't know coming to the wedding for the sake of bringing a guest and also people that we purposely did not invite (friends in common) that would probably be comming as guests if that makes sense.
