My hair won't hold a curl - keratin

My hair in naturally wavy/curly...and has always been great with holding a curl.

I had keratin about a month ago..

and my hair will NOT hold a curl at all.

Same woman has been doing my hair for 7+ years. She tried everything this weekend to get my hair to hold a curl and it kept falling flat.

I'm sooo aggravated about this.

When I was pricing out the keratin treatments I asked at least 3 different places if it would hold a curl, they all said yes. That includes cactus.

My wedding is a little over 4 months away and I'm just praying it will hold a curl by then.

I heard if you use regular shampoo it will take the keratin out but I'm scared it may damage my hair too. I'm going to have to look into this.

I would call the person that did it and tell them...

yeah I'm going to call them tomorrow, the salon isn't open today. I'm kinda really angry, because I spent an hour trying to get my hair curled at the salon yesterday morning for my shower and it wouldn't hold.. I ended up having to go home to straighten it and winded up walking in after some of my guests because I was late.

Re: My hair won't hold a curl - keratin

my co-worker just had keratin done (she gets it done all the time, like every 4 months or so) and she got it done last month. She is getting married at the crest hollow next month and she went for several hair trials and her hair really did not hold a curl that well.
she is going to end up wearing her hair all up since it will look straight by the end of the night.

Re: My hair won't hold a curl - keratin

I have thick wavy, curly hair and the 1st month my hair was very slick.
Try washing your hair with regular shampoo...it will wash some of the keratin out.

ETA: I've been wearing my hair curly for 1 week now. My last keratin treatment was 1st week in August.

Well, if you can't get it to curl you and you really want curls you can always put it all up and use a hair piece with curls

Just a suggestion...

Re: My hair won't hold a curl - keratin

ok, so i have done the keratin a couple of times already and my curls ALWAYS come back, but it does take a while. Start washing your hair with regular shampoo, it wont mess up your hair, but it will start to wash out the treatment (the keratin shampoo preserves it). If your wedding is in a couple of months, you should be fine...dont worry, just start the process asap.

mines usually lasts about four-6 months, so depending on when you got it, itll take some time. You can also try just air drying it, and style it as if you had your curly hair (no gel or product--maybe just a light cream) this way you arent blowdrying it and keeping it straight, or if you do choose to blowdry, diffuse rather than straighten....

Hope this helps and good luck!!

Do you know what kind of treatment it was? Was it FORMALDAHYDE free?? Did you try letting it air dry and then curling it? As a hairdresser, I find that if you dont blow out the hair with a brush and make it smoother, it will hold a curl better. And hopefully there wasnt ANY formaldahyde in the product, it will take much longer to get rid of it then washing it out. Only the formaldahyde free one will wash out. the other wont. It will grow out.
hope that helps

Re: My hair won't hold a curl - keratin

Jess, I think it depends where you got it done. I got mine done in April- the version where you only have to leave it alone for a day- and it's just starting to wear off now. Oh- and I've also used regular shampoo on it occasionally when I've had to shower somewhere else and had forgotten mine/etc.

Before that, I had it done at a different salon- the 3 day version- and it wore off more quickly. I think you'll be fine. I was considering get mine redone soon, but maybe I'll rethink it if I can't do it soon...

Re: My hair won't hold a curl - keratin

it was def formaldehyde free

and I think I may try to start washing it with regular shampoo. I don't know what I'll do if it can't hold a curl for the wedding.

I have so much hair (it's down to my butt) and thick... and i wear it straight for everything - I really wanted curls and I've never used fake hair before and feel like I have so much of my own hair that I've let grow out specifically for the purpose of the wedding that it will be very disappointing if it doesn't hold a curl for me.

It's a shame you're gonna try and remove it from yuor hair. You spent all that money. At least wait til November. Your wedding is not til February. It will come out. You dont need 5 months to get rid of it.

the money is not the issue. I can always do it again after the wedding.

Right now I'm more concerned of stripping this stuff out of my hair.

Re: My hair won't hold a curl - keratin

I was always told your hair will still curl with keratin, but not the japanese. I have two bff's that get keratin regularly and they still curl their hair...guess it depends on type of hair
