My Indian Outfit - possibilities?

Original post by kris_gets_hitched

The other day I posted that FH's mom would be going to Bangladesh soon to get my bridal jewelry.

(Yeah, WOW!!!)

Last night she and I were on the phone and she told me that it's tradition for her to also buy me my bridal attire, and that since she's going over there, she would like to get it from Bangladesh. At first I was a little hesitant; I mean, the idea of getting something like that without trying it on or picking it out had me a little uneasy. But then she assured me that it would be something similar to what his cousin wore for her wedding (which I loved! ) and that we'd get me measured before her trip so it'll be the right size. Also, his dad will be sending photos before any purchases are made.

So here's some inspiration photos that I'm going to show her so she can get an idea of my taste...what do you ladies think? The pics are enormous, but there's so much detail that you kinda need them large!

I dated a Bengali guy for 7 years and at times it was not easy! His parents, thankfully, accepted it, but I was rarely allowed to go to family functions because his grandparents, etc just couldn't understand. One of my best (girl) friend's is also Bengali. I guess I'm just drawn to that culture for some reason (I'm white as they come, btw)

Anyway, if you love one another you'll make it through any obtacles. And of course you'll have beautiful children (if you're planning to have them) bc IMO mixed babies are always gorgeous!

Wow, so you know exactly what I've gone through! I was never not allowed to attend events, but I didn't feel really comfortable until I got to know the cousins that are around our age.

At first I was such a novelty...at events people would be like 'look at the white girl in our clothing' LMAO....now it's just 'oh, yeah, that's Kris'...which is SO MUCH more comfortable!

Did you ever go to Bangladesh? We're planning a trip there in 2011 - my first time. I'm stoked! Might try to get over to India as well, depending on vacation time and money.

As for being drawn to the culture...me too! I've always been drawn to south Asian culture The food introduced me to it...and the rest is history.

Yes I definitely understand what you are going through! It's great that they've accepted you (and sounds like even welcome you) now. At the end of the day we're all the same on the inside.

I never went too Bangladesh but would have loved to. It's a reallly long fly and I'm not a fan of flying (by 5 hours I'm ready to get off! haha) so it's doubtful I'll ever make it...but you never know. Enjoy your trip - it will be amazing I'm sure!

Oh and if any of his cousin's are single my friend is looking for a traditional Bengali bachelor! haha. Although, they probably know one another - it's such a tight knit community of people, which is nice.

He has a lot of single cousins...along with his brother, who's also single.

They probably do know each other, especially if they're in Queens or Nassau.

Side note: Have you ever seen that guy who drives around the Woodhaven/Howard Beach/Ozone Park area with the license plate that says 'BENGALI'? FH and I always crack up at that one. I don't know why, but it gives us the giggles.

Haha no I've never seen that car but I'm sure I'll notice it now! Yes my friend lives in Forest Hills but used to live in Floral Park. It's a small Bengali world after all! She's 34 - which she says by Bengali standards is an old hag. I told her it's 2010 - 34 is the new 24!
