I think he was just looking for soda bottles but i watched him elbow deep in my garbage.. it was pretty gross, and i know this is going to sound weird, but i felt invaded even though it was garbage..
hes kind of old though about 80 and maybe its just his old age...
still bothers me though..

My 80 yr old landlord picks garbage everyday for cans all over the block.
NASTY!
I squish them on purpose so he cant get them, HHAHAHA

We had a guy on a bike in Long Beach who was a can picker.......we used to separate our bottles and cans, and put them in a clear bag and leave them next to the garbage for him.......it helped him out, and kept him away from the house for long periods of time......
We had a super that did this too...and when we were moving out he made me wait while he went through...I was really upset and made DH go down with the next bag...
but the super found coke bags in the garbage once and the landlord accused us!!!! I was so appalled!!! how do you know who's garbage is whos?

ewwwwwwwwwwww...... ill admit my grandmother is in her 80's and a couple of years ago if she saw a soda or beer can in the garbage, she would pull it out(for the 5 cents) and then proceed to look for more in their.... my family all knows she's lost it already
