My mom doesn't like the cake FH and I chose . . .

As soon as she heard we chose a yellow sponge cake with canolli filling, she was like 'WHY would you choose THAT?'

Well, we chose it because we originally wanted cheesecake, which our hall's bakery makes, but they said it falls apart too quickly to look nice... So we wanted something else italian and we figured not everyone would like cannoli cake so we'd go with a yellow cake instead and just use canolli with chocolate chips as fililng...

I don't even know why it's bothering me that my mother didn't like that cake we chose, but it really is. Maybe we should change it. She said even a lemon cake or something would be better. I don't know.

Is your mom going to cut the cake? Will she eat it at the one year mark? Is it her wedding? Since none of the answers are yes, ignore her and move on. I'm sorry she wasn't supportive of your choice, but frankly that's just her opinion. It sounds yummy and it's what you and your FH picked...stick with it!

The truth is your not going to please everyone at your wedding. Some people are going to think the canoli cake is wonderful and some people are just not going to like it...so my advice is just go with what you like because either way there is going to someone that isn't going to like it.

P.s. I'm sorry your mom is not being supportive, but remember this is YOUR wedding!!

I'd ignore her - and your satisfaction will be when your guests are ooohing and ahhhing at the taste of that yummy cake.

You should have what you and FH want. I'm learning the hard way not to tell everyone (including my parents) ever decision we make because it just brings on criticism you don't want to hear. It's your day- should be your way.

I'm having Almond cake with cannolli filling with chips too! I think spounge with cannollie sounds delightful! I say go for it. its your wedding, you could offer another cake as a sheet cake as an altertive. Maybe the lemon or chocolate or even cheese cake.

Sorry but its yours and your FHs decision - not your mothers!

I would be inclined to think that most people would expect a canoli filling rather than lemon IMO.

I agree. The canoli with choc. chips sounds much yummier!! Go with what you and FH want.

I like your idea. Sounds yummy! We want the approval that our decisions are good and it upsets us when someone doesn't like our opinion when it OUR WEDDING!

girl.... be prepared. your mom probably won't be the last person to critique your wedding. i hate it but to be honest i even do myself as i'm sure everyone else here has .. even if it's as silly as the table cloth being uneven. what i'm trying to say is only you and your husband can be happy with YOUR wedding. it's gonna be hard i know. be strong and try to enjoy every moment of it! =D
