My Mom is so annoying!

So my Mom and Dad just went to California to visit their friends....and my Mom told me that she 'announced' at dinner one night to everyone there that FH and I are planning on bringing a TV into our cocktail hour to air the Kentucky Derby (the Kentucky Derby coincides with our cocktail hour and it has already been expressed to us by several guests that they are upset they are going to miss it)...so we thought it would be an added bonus (just a little bit of entertainment...the whole race is a few minutes long).

.anyway, so my Mom just tells me on the phone that all 'her' friends think the idea is 'awful and tacky'!!! I don't know...it's just the way she said it to me...doesn't she know that I am sensitive right now and it hurts when she not only shares my ideas for the wedding with her 50 closest friends, but that I don't care what they have to say!!!??

Sorry - just venting.

do what makes you happy-I went to a wedding during playoffs and the groom was actually outside in the parking lot watching a mini tv...

you are trying to accomdate everyone-don't stress

Don't sweat the venting! Don't let your mom's comments bother you! Remember, everyone has an opinion & someone might think it is tacky, but it is not their wedding, so they have no say!!!

Dont let her get to you. Mother's are naturally insane. Don't bother listening to what her friends think or what she thinks. You and FH should do what you want with your wedding. Maybe you should have some 'surprises' that even your mom doesnt know about, since she wants to share them with everyone else. Please dont let her stress you out. My mother drives me crazy about everything. Don't let her ruin your beautiful special day.

I think most of the women would think that, but the guys would think it was a great idea. I think it is a good idea. It is just something extra for your guests. Don't worry about what people say.

Thanks girls - I know....my problem is that I share too much info with my Mom...you're right, some things should be surprises....I just want to share the details with someone, and my MOH is too busy being a lawyer to act interested at all. I am seriously stressing this week, but thanks for all the kind words

My mom tends to run at the mouth too but not in a negative way. She talks about the wedding to people who arent invited and I can't kick her under the table to stop her- DARN!!!. Sometimes they dont pick up on subtle cues like when we say 'NOT NOW MOM' with THIS face . They go on and on and on. There are plenty of things we are keeping mom in the dark on just to save ourselves from the commentary. Its something to think about.

I think it's a great idea and you can even look into serving mint juleps as a specialty drink to help bring the play up the occassion!

yes, we are going to do the mint juleps as well, as long as my mom doesn't kill the idea before it comes to fruition!

i wouldnt worry about it - moms have a way of being blunt - i dont think some realize that their opinion does count, and when they put down an idea - that you can take it to heart

Ya know, I think it is really a cute idea, and you can turn it into the theme of your wedding (if you are so inclined), with placecards in the shape of horses etc. As for your mom killing the idea in advance, tell her it is too late, the TV is coming in to CH for the showing of the race, and you don't care if she or anyone else think's it's tacky because you & FH (and all us LIW girls ) thinks it's cute!!!

dont worry about it, as i have learned family have many different opinions, and i have stopped telling alot of my wedding stuff and just am sharing it with my mom, like for instance my hair trial i loved, others said i shuld try something differnt., REMEMBErTHIS IS OUR WEDDING NOT THIERS!
